Adding colour and background to The Merry Hawthorn

Attached is a pen and ink drawing of a tree, I now want some colour added to the image. When finished, this coloured image is to be printed as a greetings card. I have no fixed ideas on the type of colouring, whether a watercolour wash, or detailed colouring, bright or muted. A background should be added that refers to the text below, for instance a may-pole dance. (There are some lovely paintings of may pole dancing, but if you use one, make sure it is out of copyright - 70 years since the painters death)

The tree however must stand out from the background

Standard card size is 127mm x 177mm which is a ratio of about 1 to 1.4, The design can be either portrait or landscape. (for both previous contests, I awarded two winners, one landscape and one portrait, they each got the full prize money - I cannot split it, ). With a 3mm bleed all round

The Merry Hawthorn
I am the May Tree; my sweet, white blossoms herald the end of winter. People go gathering knots of my branches in May, to crown the season’s queen. I have no grand airs, no impressive visage, and yet I keep a secret grace: find me in any hedgerow, but beware - my thorns make barriers enough to protect many merry songbirds from interruption as they sing to herald the waking of the spring.

Also attached is a sketch of the leaves, I do not want this image on the card, but would like the shape of the leaves represented in some way on the card.

I will need the final drawing in a layered format such as a .psd file as I may with to make slight amendments to the text.
I do not want borders, unless your design incorporates an artistic border. 3D views of the finished design will not influence my decisions.
I will always add comments if I feel they will be constructive, this does not mean I have decided to go with your design, but I always rate every submission.

Image sizes:

Landscape. 183mm x 131.5mm
This is 1.5mm bleed at top, 3mm bleed sides and bottom.
Text and important detail should be another 5mm in.

Portrait: 131.5mm x 183mm
This is 1.5mm bleed on left, 3mm bleed rigth, top and bottom.
Text and important detail should be another 5mm in.

I've been looking at fonts for the cards, and I think they will look more of a set if they have a consistant font. So I've added
Calgary MediumItalic.ttf
to the download files. This is going to be my preferred font, if in doubt use this. If you feel a different font is better, please go ahead and show me.
Please don't update existing entries just to revise the font.

And you say you need it in vector format...I can't do that,will Psd work? I believe you can still open it with adobe illustrator to change the text

  Still don't like the font, the background is OK, but not exciting and to be honest, although there is nothing wrong with it, I'm hoping someone will blow it out of the water with a stunning, yet subtle backdrop, like the Russian painting of the ships behind the Oak tree.

  Layout is OK, text too germanic. Leaves down left side are Maple leaves, not Hawthorn. Tree could be bigger. Needs more colour variation on leaves and bark
