Contest Brief

Hello!

Looking for somebody to create an 'Earth sunrise' video, as seen from space. The sun should start completely obscured by the Earth (so the entire scene is in almost complete darkness, maybe a few stars in the background and a tiny amount of illumination on Earth, just so you can tell its there) and then the Sun slowly rises from behind the Earth to illuminate the surface. Very rough mockup attached.

The camera itself can be static, but I think a very slight pull back from the Earth would look good.

Looking for an almost photo-realistic result, with a natural and realistic looking Sun. Take a look at the attached image to see what the Sun looks like from space. Doesn't have to be exact, you can take some artistic license but it should be close. The light from the Sun should dissipate through the Earth's atmosphere as it's revealed and provide some nice specularity/reflection on the ocean. The Earth and/or clouds should have some subtle animation rather than just being static.

No templates or stock images. Must be your own work. Obviously you can use NASA textures and the like, I'm not expecting anyone to head up into space to photograph their own textures! But the whole animating, texturing, lighting needs to be your own work.

Deliverable: 1 x 20 second video. Quicktime Photo JPEG, 29.97 fps, 3840x2160 resolution.

I'll consider a 1080p video if it's of a higher quality than all the other entries, but I would much prefer a 3840x2160 version. Let me know if your entry is 1080p otherwise I'll assume it is 4K. If you're using AE for Optical Flares, then if I could have the AE project so I can make minor adjustment, that would be great, but it's not a deal breaker.

The Earth looks great in this image, that's the kind of look I have in mind: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2nf3ippafahuu6f/Sunrise%20Example.jpg?dl=0

I think that covers everything, but give me a shout if you have any questions.

Thanks!

...invite them to a project, but it does open a private message board. Maybe you could upload any old video and then you can message me through the private message board. Or you could render a very low resolution version which should save a lot of time. Thanks.

Thanks for the entries so far. Here's an image I've found that is very close to what I'm looking for, so you can get a better idea of the look I have in mind. Some of your entries have great composition, a great flare for the Sun (Especially godfther66's), a great background etc... but the colours of the Earth look a bit unnatural. Too saturated, the land is bright green, the sea is dark blue etc. This is what I'm hoping for when it comes to the planet itself...
