Contest Brief

We are looking for a logo for a beer brewery.

Our Brewery name is “Black Wasp Brewing".

Our brand is innovative Australian craft beers. As a company we are curious, experimental, focused on quality and passionate about the Australian and worldwide craft beer scene.

Our name comes from a friendly wasp that lived near where we brewed. The wasp would come out when we were boiling the wort (sugar water extraction) and was attracted to our beer so the wasp became our mascot.

A wasp is a type of insect similar to a hornet, and the wasp we have as a mascot is a native Australian black wasp like the one in the attached pictures.

At this stage we only need a logo, but the colour scheme will be used throughout our branding so this should be kept in mind when using different colours
If we are choose your submission this may lead to more work in the future.

We envisage our logo to be no more than 3 colours and those colours should be suitable for printing digital and offset printing.

The successful applicant would need to provide all image formats in layered vector image file preferably in Adobe Illustrator. I will need both the logo in bitmap (psd) and vector (ai) format.

What we want:

A logo with a Black Wasp prominently featured on it.

Our Brewery name is “Black Wasp Brewing" this needs to be included in our logo maybe around the wasp.

The black wasp can be in silhouette, or stylised or detailed- whatever works for your design.

We are interested in a wasp in flight (see pic) but again are open to any and all variations and styles if you have a good idea.

The wasp does not have to be absolutely anatomically correct, and it may be better if it isn’t.

We’re interested in a simple, clean lined design, but if you have a great idea for something different we would like to see it. Classic Soviet/Spanish civil war poster style art is welcome as are art deco styles, but we’re interested in anything that you think looks cool.

We are interested in circular logos, oval logos etc. of the typical beer label type but also logos that are a little different from the norm- if you have a great idea we’d love to see it!

What we don’t want:

We do not want an aggressive wasp, with a stinger extended etc. We feel this is too common in wasp themed designs, and doesn’t reflect our brand.
