Name: My Persian-Speaking Friends

What do we do? We are we?
My Persian-Speaking Friends is a group of volunteers who pair Iranian and American students as pen pals. By having children and teenagers who would never have gotten a chance to meet someone from a country demonized by their own government, the participants get to see what the other country is really like and form their own opinion. We have found that the participants, by and large, are excited when they recognize similarities and understand that people are people, no matter where they’re from. On the other hand, when they do see differences, they ask about them with polite curiosity and respect.

Main target audience:
Possible participants (particularly Iranian students between the ages of 8 and 18). They're kids, so their focus is largely on school, but also on having fun. They are interested in making friends and either don't care about the differences or enjoy learning about people from other cultures. They are fairly responsible and self-motivated for their age.

Competitors:
While we don't have any direct competitors, there are many pen pal websites that would allow Iranian and American teenagers to meet. We have a few things over them, however. The first is that we translate letters and send each participant a physical copy of the original letter and one of the translation. This allows Iranians who don't speak English well and Americans who don't speak Persian (the vast majority, of course) to communicate, and they also get the original language in their pen pal's language, which participants have states is fun and interesting. We also have the ability to send small gifts such as stickers with the letters. Finally, we are able to communicate with a younger group of students. While there are some young children on the internet, children usually don't start using the internet on their own and until they're pre-teens.

Please avoid anything obvious or cliche, such as two people holding hands, or simply a pen.

We're looking for a fun, somewhat whimsical, modern design.
