Hello everyone.

We're starting a web hosting business named Cloud Elástico and it is focused on bringing advanced cloud computing possibilities to small businesses and individuals (like automatic scaling, geographic redundancy and stuff). The fist version will be released within a few months and we'd like to have our old logo changed before that.

The attached file is just a sketch of what the logo should've been, unfortunately the designer I hired had some health issues and could not finished the job. At the time we needed a logo asap to use in a landing page and some greeting cards, so we used the preliminary low-res version anyway, but now we want it changed, as I said before.

About the name

As you can see the logo features the word Cloud(e) alone (and not Cloud Elástico), that's because we intend to use Cloude (or cloud-e) as a short for Cloud Elástico (btw, elástico means elastic in portuguese, as you might have guessed). We still want to do that but we're not sure if this should be featured in the logo, "Cloud Elástico" is much more descriptive and people seem to assimilate it better, so I guess there are at least 2 nice alternatives:

1) Make it "Cloud Elástico" but set "Cloud E" apart in some clever way (colors, entanglement, you name it). Just, please, don't be cheap about it...

OR

2) Make it 2 versions, a "contracted" one featuring Cloud(e) alone and a "stretched" one featuring Cloud Elástico whole.

About the drawing

There's absolutely no limitation to it, but the name kinda forces at least a hint of a cloud in the logo, right? Anyway, if you come up with something else, feel free to post it, surprises are welcome.

There's this idea I've had once, I imagined an outline of a cloud, going up and down, from left to right, very gently, then the outline would start to change shape, very smoothly, until it would not resemble a cloud anymore, but a spring (in a few words: the left half would ressemble a cloud, the right half would ressemble a spring. Smooth transition). Got it? Cloud... spring... elastic... It sounds dumb, I know, but it would make sense (in portuguese the noum comes first - and a horizontal flip in the image would get english covered). Anyway, this is just an idea I had (they tend to look better in my head than when executed). If any of you guys would like to give this a try, I'd appreciate it.

Still about the drawing

Make it have a meaning on its own: If I wanted to cut the name away and use only the drawing as an icon (In fact I really intend to do that), would it hold my company's identity on its own?

Avoid dumb analogies: make a google image search for "cloud company". A cloud and a network cable? No. A set of gears within a cloud? Hell, no. Avoid obviounsess too.

Simple: simple is good. The simpler the better.

About the tagline

We don't really need one. If you want to use "Hospedagem elástica na nuvem" as a placeholder, go ahead, but it will probably be changed later (I suppose the winner will be kind enough to make it match the rest of the logo and provide us with the fonts for future use).

#6: thanks for your entry. The idea I had was more like an outline with smooth transition, your entry looks nice but it's too solid and with abrupt transition, not exactly what I had in mind. The spring also looks like an telephone cord, see, it won't pass the idea of "elastic"... thanks for your effort

  That's nice, only now the "elastic" half does not communicate "elastic" anymore (the last one was "too much" elastic, this one is "no elastic" at all LOL). But it's clean and simple, I like it
