Contest Brief

I am looking for a logo for an Android app called "WheresDuke". It is a Java version of navigation functionality. It should feature Duke, the Java mascotte (see existing examples at https://duke.kenai.com/) and it should also show some map.
With the app, users can track their friends. The logo should be rectangular. It should be in 512x512 pixels, but scaled to 72x72 it should still make sense.

#19 was wondering what your thoughts of the design is, is it 2 simple/flat. Do you prefer Duke is shown more? and also what platform is the application for, PC, phones/tablet?

It is for phone and tablet (Android). Flat or 3D are both ok. Somehow, Duke should be there, but not extremely present. We want people that know the Duke icon to recognize it ("Aha, there's duke in the logo"), but it shouldn't be about Duke only. The first thing people should notice is a map.

The exact same design as what exactly? Duke? In general, this is how the Java mascotte looks like: http://images.fanpop.com/images/image_uploads/Duke-at-JavaOne-2007-java-87010_640_480.jpg

and for different applications, designers typically base their design on this duke image, but you have the freedom to modify it of course (as is also done https://duke.kenai.com/)
