Design a Logo for stylized initials

Contest Brief

I would like a logo showing the letters CD (a person's initials) in a unique and distinctive way. The person who this is for is a high-tech, engineering-type person. The design can incorporate any (or none) of the following interests/hobbies/skills:

Robotics
Electronics
Computers / Programming
Math
Science
Engineering
Maker or hacker-related things

Color would be nice for screen and print applications, but it absolutely must work in a strictly black and white form as well. It will be engraved and laser cut/etched in some cases. The pure black and white form also needs to be strictly 2-D. But having options where there are a few layers at different depths for engraving purposes, or even a smooth 3D raised or indented profiles would be a huge benefit.

The format must include vector (EPS, Illustrator, Inkscape) versions for arbitrary scalability. Having bitmap versions as well, especially for small sizes, is fine.
