Contest Brief

Lug nuts are often overtorqued by shops that use impact guns for final tightening rather than torque wrenches when we take our cars for service.
I have had situations where I simply could not turn the lug nut with the standard lug nut wrench because it was so tight.

Some people are simply not aware of this problem. Some people know about it so they bring a breaker bar in their vehicle which is heavy , bulky and more expensive than necessary.
My idea is basically a plain tube of 6061 aluminum with added functionality.
The basic tube part will fit over the standard OEM lug nut wrench that comes with your automobile. It will be 16" long. this will provide the same torque as a 24" breaker bar since it will be the same effective length.
Standard lug nut wrench needs to stay in car because that is what is needed to operate the
scissor jack. So why not use it.

I would like it to be fit in the standard spare tire well so it would need to be able to knock down easily and quickly.
Parts that remain together would be better so parts don't get lost.

While the standard lug nut wrench is too short too offer the torque needed to loosen over tightened lug nuts, it is too long to spin off the nuts quickly. It's too cumbersome.
The added functionality I would like to incorporate into it would be a flipout handle that would allow you to spin the lug nuts off quickly. It would need to be permanently attached
to bar so it does not get lost and compact so it does not take up precious space in car.
Would need to have socket that could be attached at other end. Handle would not need to provide a lot of torque to spin them off since the lug nuts were already loosened. Although, bIt would need more torque to "spin" the nuts on because the wheel is not yet close to the brake rotor.

For branding I do want to incorporate my logo laser etched on one side. Company Logo attached.
Power Bar in Microsoft Impact font.
I would like it anodized for aesthetics.

You can use my design as is or tweak it or come up with something else that is better or cooler looking. I'm game.
Naturally strength/functionality is #1 and aesthetics is 2nd though the cooler the better.
Of course, designs that cater to manufacturing cost/ease as well all the better.

I need renderings and files for manufacturing.
An animation of the tool in use if possible, would be a plus.

Thanks for considering my project.
I appreciate it.

Do you need me to finish my design or you have finalized the winning design? I was already going to put a 1/2" male socket on the end to ensure compatibility with commercially available nut adapters. I'll be more than happy to incorporate torque enhancement as well and any other suggestions/requirements you might have. It was around 1am at the time I uploaded the unfinished model and I had to get some sleep.

I had requested an extension but it never came. The contest expired so I was compelled to pick a winner. The winning design hit more of my goals off the bat which is why he was chosen. You were next closest. I will keep your name for future projects.

It's OK. That's what I needed to know so that I don't spend any more time on it if I don't need to.

There was some confusion regarding this extension. I had requested an extension but it never came. The contest expired so I was compelled to pick a winner. The winning design hit more of my goals off the bat which is why he was chosen. Then the extension came in from support. I apologize for any confusion. Plus this is my first project on Freelancer and my first contest format.

Great idea. I'd like to have this stuff in my car. I have another standard lug nut wrench, can you please attach dimensions of your wrench.

Disassemble/breakdown point should be close to bisecting the 16" so that it be as compact as possible. Needs to stow in typical spare tire well. Final renderings and files need to show how all components are attached and fit. THANKS!

To all, Thanks for your interest! To have a high speed low torque "spinner" mode for removing lug nuts AND a higher torque mode for installing lug nuts would be great. Of course for loosening and final tightening, user will need the breaker bar mode over the lug nut wrench.

VasiliyL Actually it is an auxiliary bar that turns your existing OEM lug nut wrench into a breaker bar with a "spinner" function so that you can quick spin off the lug nuts. Length is 16" so that the effective length with lug nut wrench is about 24" This will give you same torque multiplication effect as a 24" breaker bar.
