Contest Brief
Hey everybody. We are looking for a great logo for a new company called Course West.
This company does consulting for foreign students who would like to attend universities in the West (United States, UK, etc.) and need assistance applying and finding the right universities. In this case, "Course" means path or journey. Some of the words we use to describe our company are: Opportunity, success, excel, limitless, pursuit.
The logo will be used on our website and on business cards. It should be focused on the text. If it's possible to convey a "journey west" in the design of the logo (a path? a road? a compass? anything else that conveys the direction West) subtly, that would be great, but it may not be possible and it should be very subtle.
We are looking for blue to be our main color but we are open to different shades of blue (see attached images for colors and contours we really like). Some combination of two different blues is also great. Really open to all shades of blue. Here is just one color combination we like:

Our font style needs to be very professional-looking. Most of the fonts we like are serif fonts, but we are open to some sans-serif ideas (see attached images for fonts we really like).
We would like the logo to be clean and professional so the focus should be on the words. I have attached a bunch of images that should help you understand what type of logo we are looking for so please look at the photos and read the notes on each photo.
Really looking forward to seeing the designs and feel free to ask me any questions. We will require the final Photoshop or Illustrator file for editing purposes and to able to use in multiple locations. Thanks everyone!

I think "Course West" might look better if the two words are together as "CourseWest". The space between the two words makes it a little long

Starting to get some cool "coat of arms" ideas in. #109 and #118 are good examples. Try to make sure they don't look like fighting "shields" and more like a coat of arms (no pointy top). Haven't seen any great uses of the "scroll" idea yet but I think it could be cool.

Another idea is a scroll. Traditionally when students graduate they were given scrolls with a small ribbon tied around it to symbolize their degree. Possibly someone could use a scroll in their logo design. Thanks, you guys are great!

Hey everybody. I'd like to suggest a couple new ideas for any "symbols" to include in the logo. It is not completely necessary to have a symbol, but I think something subtle and university-related or a symbol that suggests a "path" or "course" would be good. Two ideas that I haven't seen yet are a university "coat of arms" or "shield". Many universities in the West have these and they are a common symbol of schools. Maybe a symbol that shows a modern coat of arms for a university with books, a computer, and science equipment would be cool. Use your creativity because I am open to many ideas. I will add pictures to the brief of examples of real university coat of arms. Most of them are too detailed and complicated, so if you choose to make one, make sure it's simple and clear and modern.

We'd like a logo that looks professional, trusted, but also friendly. It shouldn't be too powerful or intimidating like a law firm or financial firm logo. #13 and #23 are good examples of the balance between professional and friendly that we want.
