Contest Brief

A logo for a company called crazy cutlery

My cutlery creations have been inspired by Carrol Boyes, the South African queen of cutlery. Having studied and loved sculpture it made sense to make functional but artistic objects to fill the cutlery gap in Zimbabwe in 2000. Since then I’ve gone into partnership with a great friend who oversees our production. We use brass and aluminium and are considering adding cast iron. The cutlery is beautifully made using the ancient form of smelting – pouring molten ore into sand moulds. It’s a simple but incredibly labour intensive exercise. Once the objects are cast they have to be filed down and carefully polished on a buffing wheel with abrasive soaps.
We buy scrap metal for our production, contributing to local income generation and helping to clean up the environment.

Other metal products
I love that I can use the foundry to create items for my other work: brass basins, brass fitted elephant taps and other bathroom accessories; studs for doors and tables; legs cast in aluminium to add a tactile dimension to pieces of furniture; trophies for tournaments and competitions. There’s really no limit to what we can create so I’m happy to take orders for customized items from clients

Your brief is very detailed about what your company does. Can you give an explanation of what you're expecting and would like to see for a design. Maybe a color scheme or some examples of logos styles that you are looking for?
