Contest Brief
Vector Spade Symbol with Illustration Montage
Description: A spade symbol (created with vectoring) filled inside with various specific illustrations tied together in an intricate cohesive design. Sample images of the spade shape and the style of the illustrations is provided. The entire image is in black and white, with no gray. Ideally the images will flow together seamlessly in a combination of an image and a geometric pattern.
Style: Similar to the traditional deck of cards styling for the spade. Continue same style for illustrations or use tattoo stylings as well. Lines should not be super delicate. All lines should be clearly defined. Also love the style of mandalas.
Specifics:
1. Final product needs to look great at one standard letter size page 8 ½ x 11 inches.
Would also like: one version that looks great vertically on a half-size paper (roughly 8 inches tall, 5.5 inches wide)
And one that looks good on standard business card. It can be identical to the large design, or simplified as necessary.
2. Please provide files in photoshop format that includes the vectoring of the spade symbol.
Content:
(See attached images for more detail on all content)
1. Large Spade Symbol: solid double-line black border with white space/line in between the black. The spade fills up the entire page with the illustrations inside of it.
2. Nature Elements
1. Waterfall
2. Sun
3. Moon
4. Rainbow
3. Universal Symbols (see images attached)
1. Please include as many of these as you can.
2. Must include some form of:
1. flower of life geometry (even simplest form)
2. spiral(s)
3. The images can be woven together, connected, spread out among the other elements, made large or small, central or not. Please do so elegantly and creatively.
4. Hawaiian Flowers and Plants
1. Birds of Paradise
2. Hibiscus
3. Plumeria
4. Lotus
5. Palm tree (not necessary, but great if it works)
5. Animals
1. Bird (see images)
2. Dolphin
3. Turtle
4. Gecko
See PDF with clear sample images attached
Please feel free to ask any clarifying questions *after* reading and browsing the entire attached file. Thanks!

Hello everyone. Thank you very much for your participation in this contest. Many of you put in a lot of work, and I appreciate your efforts, your creativity and your designs. In the end, I have chosen to go with Entry #26 by @FirstAidArt. For me, it was a very close decision, however in working with the two front running designs, I have found that the foundational design of this entry is something that I can work with. I love the work of @dgpaolacastaneda and I think she is a brilliant artist who definitely understood my style. If there had been more time, perhaps she would have been the winner. I am confident that @FirstAidArt will be able to take my final modifications to get to the end product I am looking for. I would definitely consider working in the future with both of you.

Aloha All. @dpaolocastaneda and @FirstAidArt; I am really conflicted between the two designs. Both are quite close. I am working with the images a bit - to see which one comes closest. I like aspects of both. I will update you as I gain clarity on what I am looking for, and how we can get their graphically. Thank you for your help!

Aloha everyone! Thank you to everyone who has submitted an entry. I am grateful for so many options. Some of you have put time and energy into your creative interpretations of my design requests. It shows! Currently, I am deciding between the top two submissions/free lance artists. I am not yet clear whose I will pick. I will wait till the close of the contest before choosing a winner, in case there are any last minute entries. Thank you all!

:-) You are so welcome. I really appreciate how well you have taken my feedback and responded with your design. Your design is definitely something I can use. I may have some final edits if I choose your design. But I don't know what those would be yet. I love your talent, and your communication skills. Thank you!

Aloha Everyone! Based on the first two submissions I have uploaded an extra PDF document with a bit more detail on the center point of the spade, and thoughts on how to do the montage. Please let me know if you need any more clarifications. The first PDF with the specifics still contains the primary instructions. Artistic license is still permitted. For those who need more detail, I have provided this document. Thanks!
