Here is a snippet of a section of a new kids book that is being self-published and I am looking for an illustrator who would like to help me bring the story to life through beautiful illustrations.

In this contest, I am only needing you to create a one page illustration that would sit alongside the text below. In this childrens book, this is essentially two pages. The characters are GingerBread People (the boy must have two buttons and the girl must have one button) and they are on the edge of a deep, dark forest on their way to a huge brown mountain.

There is no restrictions as to the artist tools in which you use, it just has to be something you will be proud of and are willing to share the world. It also has be able to be printed into a colourful children's book.

Once a winner has been chosen, they will then be engaged to complete 16 pages for me to illustrate the entire book. To be negotiated at the time of engagement.

From the book, choose a scene below and show me your stuff:

"They filled up their packs and headed out towards the great mountain which loomed in the distance. It looked like it was too far away to ever get there, but they were determined to try. They walked for days over the grassy hills. One day they came to the edge of a deep forest.

“It’s pretty dark in there, Benny,” said Rose.
“It sure is, but we’ll find our way,” said Benny.

They held hands and walked into the forest. When they felt scared they would whistle and that would make them feel better. After they had passed through the forest they began to hear a rumbling sound in the distance. They walked on and the sound got louder.

“It’s a river!” said Rose.
They came to a steep gorge and peered over the edge. White-water roared below them.
“I wouldn’t want to get dunked in there! It looks as white as milk,” exclaimed Benny.

Near them was a rickety old wooden bridge.

“I don’t think we can walk across that,” said Benny.

thanks for inviting me to your contest. i'll try to come up with an entry as soon as i'm done with my prior commitments. is there anyway that there will be a budget for the illustrations for the pages of the book instead of none at all? as this will be more inviting to have more entries in the contest. just a suggestion. thanks again for inviting me

  Changed it now so the brief now states that the 16 pages that need to be illustrated will be negotiated upon winning this contest. Much better idea, so thanks for the suggestion!

Thank you for invite Rose but the budget is not so motivating for 6 pages,and credit as illustrator is worthless if the book will not be the next big thing in the industry,well 99,9% of books are not,so...I wish all the best and good luck.

Thanks so much for participating. The contest is now guaranteed. Here is some more information too.The dimensions will be 26.5 x 26,5 cm, so square in shape. The gingerman are a metaphor for a husband and wife who are struggling to have children. So you need to find a balance between real and make-believe.

  don't mind, you can use what you are most comfortable with. I believe it needs lots of colour to keep the kids engrossed so no black and white, just plain charcoal or plain lead pencil - make sure you use colour.
