  So... absolutely amazing entries. It's been a VERY tough decision and we'd love to award it to several people because of the quality. But, we have to pick one winner and that winner 1) Followed the directions precisely, 2) Used typography for the design (which was specified in the original contest posting), 3) used only two colors (as specified in the original contest posting) and 4) Captured the theme of the site. There were a number of people who met NONE of the criteria I specified. Most of those people got 1 or 2 stars. Congrats to the winner, and good luck in future contests to everyone else. I appreciate the investment many people made in showing quality work.

  Just a few mass comments here since there are too many people looking for individual comments for me to get to everyone. First of all - there are some wonderful designs. Don't take a 1, 2 or 3 star rating personally. As you know as designers, different designs strike different people in different ways. The major reason that 1 or 2 star ratings may have been given are as follows: Design too large (makes it difficult to incorporate into web pages); Design does not integrate the theme mentioned in the instructions; Design does not integrate typography and iconography; Design has too many colors (gradations, etc.); Design is too similar to an existing brand; Design too difficult to replicate on non-web products (i.e. embroidered shirts and such). This covers about 90% of the 1 and 2 stars.

     Thanks for your submissions. As mentioned in the original specifications, I really don't want more than two colors so gradations don't work for this content. Also, it doesn't really represent the theme of the site.

     I like the concept, but it's difficult to read and a bit too plain. Also, it may make people feel uncomfortable. As I mentioned in my design interests, I want to provide a soothing feeling if possible. The site is not just about disasters, but also to help people who are experiencing one or have been through one.
