NASA Challenge: Develop 3D Models for Robonaut Simulation-RFID Scanner

  • Status: Closed
  • Hadiah: $75
  • Penyertaan diterima: 12
  • Pemenang: BlackRiddles

Ringkasan Peraduan

We (NASA) need to develop a number of high resolution 3D models to be used for Robonaut simulations. These 3D models are to be developed based on photographs of real items (see attached files). These simulated objects would be used for various grasp and manipulator testing.

This particular challenge is to build a 3D model of an RFID Scanner. A version of this item is used by astronauts on space station to both locate and keep an inventory of RFID-tagged items. This scanner can also be used by R2 to perform the same task when necessary.

Note that the bottom view image includes a white block used to hold the scanner in position for photographing. This white block should be ignored and not included in the model.

There is a scale in the attached imagery is in inches. All final model submissions must be delivered in on of the following formats: .prt (Solidworks, ProE); .step or .stp; .iges; .stl; .dae. NOTE: Freelancer submissions will need to be image file views of your model. If you win the contest, you will then send/transfer the model files to NASA via email, dropbox, etc.

All entries will be judged on the accuracy, quality, and fidelity (detail) of the model produced. Note that where highly similar top submissions are produced, the submission entered first will win.

Quick question for the community. Do you prefer submissions for this kind of a contest to be sealed or unsealed?

And NASA don't give out contest like this. Seriously $75 for a high definition 3D Model?? It seems like people are expected to do these artistic jobs almost free in the name of their contest.

Regardless of it being a competition or a job, the fact that it IS a competition gives you not only the opportunity to work on it, but also gives you a better chance at having your work accepted.

Please do not comment on the work related communication device if you are not going to say anything positive, I and many others do not tolerate, nor do we want anyone bringing the morale of the freelancer environment down.

Be happy that you are here and doing what you love to do for a living as a freelancer, take this opportunity and expand your skill and even better your reputation.

      Thank You,

Due to the nature of this object it would help if there were some photos at 3/4 views as the perspective in the photos reference does hide some of the necessary detailing.

Hi there, thank you so much. I have only just realised you have put them up. I have submitted what I could do without the necessary reference. Is it worth re doing the parts I now have information for, or is it too late?

For RFID Scanner, we just uploaded several angled photos to help better understand the object. Hope this helps.

While not a hard requirement, the winning submission will be the model that is closest to object shown in the photos. We hope that answers your question.

I think the prize is quite low if we see the complexity, an increased prize money will surely be a motivation to give this our best attempt. #increaseprize

We are trying to get the 3D model that best replicates the object in the photo. Thus far in the contest, many submissions have included textures. Hope that helps.

I too agree with some of people here, the complexity of model does not justify the prize. #increaseprize

As long as you can export to one of the following formats: .prt (Solidworks, ProE); .step or .stp; .iges; .stl; .dae. The submissions will actually be images of views of your model. If you win, then you will need to provide the model in one of these formats as a final deliverable.

Just read the brief and follow the instructions. Check out the attached images and then construct a 3D model of the RFID scanner. Then apply the appropriate textures and colors to make it as close to the actual object shown in the images. Submit various views of the model using images to upload for your submission. If you win the contest, then we will arrange to get the model files from you. Hope this helps.
