Contest Brief
The NBA consists of 30 teams split into two conferences, East and West, both consisting of 15 teams. All teams play 82 regular season games before being seeded in their respective conferences, where the top 8 teams of each conference enter the playoffs. The winner of each conference then go onto play for the NBA Championship.
As alluded too, to reach the NBA finals you must win your conference. Each conference has a Quarterfinals, Semifinals and Finals before reaching the NBA finals. There are 8 teams in each conference playoffs and they are matched up predicated upon their seeding (Win/Loss rank from the regular season) as follows;
Example:
1 versus 8 (Houston v Dallas)
2 versus 7 (OKC v Memphis)
3 versus 6 (Golden State v Clippers)
4 versus 5 (New Orleans v Spurs)
- I have attached the Bracket of the NBA playoffs below to give clarity to the overall playoffs.
Each round of the playoffs is a 7 game series and is a race to 4 wins. The results can be 4-3, 4-2, 4-1, 4-0. In total there are 15 7-game series (both East and West + the Finals). I want to find the historical probability of being able to pick the exact result for every series in the Playoffs, e.g. I predict Houston to beat Dallas 4-2 and so forth.
Provision of the calculations is required.
Time is of the essence.
Hope this interests you and much thanks.
