What are we looking for?
Something that portrays our values, we are young, fun, urban ( we live in cities ) funky and we think about the environment and the farmers producing our coffee. Coffee is awesome!!

Making coffee better for everyone

Innovating Coffee

The philosophy behind our coffee is simple: taking care of people and the environment produces a better quality coffee. Part product, part project; this Fair Trade certified coffee is the result of two decades of innovative work and is being harvested in the heart of Honduras right now.

Once the organic, high-elevation cherries are picked from the trees, they are carried down the mountain—often by horseback—and brought to a processing facility. This unique facility houses the world’s first completely off-grid coffee processor powered by 100% renewable energy.

In contrast to most commercial coffee processors, which are powered by burning wood from nearby tropical forests and are contributing to mass deforestation, this leading edge facility relies on a combination of solar panel technology and locally harvested biodiesel.

Not many people are aware that, due to conventional coffee processors, roughly 3 sq. cm of tropical forest is destroyed for every cup of coffee we consume. This facility’s clean, sustainable equipment is helping save Honduras’ rainforest while efficiently drying the coffee beans in preparation for export. That is 21 000 Football fields per year globally.

Pioneering coffee that protects forests

By protecting the natural forests surrounding the coffee farms, our farming techniques are increasing biodiversity and improving coffee quality. Our coffee is grown using an organic farming method called “Integrated Open Canopy” (IOC), which is based on traditional farming methods. IOC farming has been proven to support the greatest variety of migratory bird species, and its dense forest areas act as a wind buffer to protect the coffee trees while enriching the overall quality of the region’s soil. These forests are habitats for biodiversity and reservoirs of carbon, critical to reducing global climate change.

Key take-aways

Besides being high-quality, Strictly High Grown (SHG) and certified organic coffee from 1,300 meters (4,254 ft.), our coffee’s many additional attributes are truly sweet:

·Aroma Caribe is promoting 100% off-the-grid coffee processing that uses clean energy from solar panels. The renewable solar energy dries the green coffee beans in order to preserve them for export.

·Our coffee eliminates the use of fuel wood in drying the annual harvest, a significant contributor to the destruction of tropical forests.

· Our coffee is processed by highly-trained local youth from Honduras, providing jobs at home.  Many of these youth are 4th generation coffee producers themselves.

·Cooperative COMISUYL and the Processing & Export Centre are managed by women. COMISUYL is the first cooperative in Latin America to receive the UN-backed “Gender Equity” certification.
