Contest Brief

We are manufacturer of vinyl cutters under the brand Secabo (www.secabo.com). Our vinyl cutters need a redesign after some years in their product lifetime. Our vinyl cutters are available in different series (http://en.secabo.com/vinyl-cutters/), we may in future will change the colours of the side covers and the HMI panel in order to make those series more distinguishable. All series shall be made of the same parts, also after the redesign. Our vinyl cutters are available in certain working widths ranging from 30cm to 160cm, all will use the same parts except for their total width.

We want to change two major things in the redesign and therefore require from you:

1. New side cover design to make the outlook of the machine more modern and European style.

- The side covers need to be symmetric, so we need only one injection mold.
- The construction and design have to follow typical dye casting production standards
- The side covers have to keep the interfaces, plug and switch at the same position, as it is now.
- The sheet metal part, that holds the side covers may be changed according to the new side cover design and contour.
- The cross bars and beams of the vinyl cutter may not be changed, also no position of any functional parts shall be changed.

2. New HMI panel design in order to improve the operation of the machine.

- The buttons may be changed in their position.
- The construction and design have to follow typical dye casting production standards
- We favor a real cursor design, not the odd positions like they are now.
- Number and function of buttons may not be changed.
- Size of display may not be changed

The Secabo logo may be integrated in the die casting parts at some point, maybe also only the red circle elements.

We require 3D rendered drawings as well as die cast construction drawings of all new parts including changed sheet metal parts for a valid posting in this contest.

1.jpg and 2.jpg are design ideas we developed on our own but it does not fit to the structure of the current machine. Just to give you all an idea.

Hi. I have some questions.
I'm having some problems importing the dwg file.
Can you upload on some other format?
If you'll deploy a HMI display why the actual one cannot be changed?
There's some limit or desired size regarding the HMI panel?
The software I use don't recognize these '.STEP' files.
What are they?
What do you mean by 'european style' and 'dye casting standard'?

  Hello Ricardo, the files work for all other participants so far, so there might be a problem on your side. Only the LCD-display itself and the number of buttons cannot be changed, the rest ist free to change. The .stp files come from Solid Works and contain 3D models of the current product. Dye casting standard means, I need a design that I can make a die casting tool from. There need to be certain construction standards to be taken into account in order to design according to dye casting technology. European style means design style for European customers. Please check google for competitors like Graphtec or Roland.

  I don't know .stl files, but as long as it can be imported so SolidWorks of Catia, it will be fine.

  Of course this would be okay. In the first place we need the design itself, I suppose one can export files like .stp also from AutoCAD...
