Contest Brief

I’m looking for an Argentine or Uruguayan beta reader for a full-length contemporary fiction manuscript written in Spanish, with a strong Rioplatense voice.

The manuscript is approximately 38,500 words.

The novel explores family expectations, identity, emotional independence, photography, Buenos Aires, friendship, love, and the process of rebuilding a life outside of what was expected.

At this stage, I’m looking for a thoughtful and honest reader response that helps me understand how the manuscript is working as a novel.

Important requirement

The beta reader must be Argentine or Uruguayan, ideally with strong familiarity with Buenos Aires / Rioplatense Spanish.

This is essential because the manuscript relies heavily on Argentine tone, dialogue, cultural references, family dynamics, and the atmosphere of Buenos Aires. I need feedback not only on the story, but also on whether the voice, expressions, dialogues, and emotional tone feel authentic within an Argentine context.

Scope of work

You will read the full manuscript, approximately 38,500 words, and provide a detailed written beta reading report.

The expected deliverable is a written response of around 3–5 pages, or an equivalent structured document, covering your honest impressions of the novel.

What I’m looking for

I’m looking for someone who reads contemporary fiction regularly and can give honest, specific, and constructive feedback.

Experience as a beta reader, editor, writer, literary reviewer, or publishing professional is a plus, but not strictly required.

The ideal reader is someone who can be both sensitive and critical: I don’t need generic encouragement, but I’m also not looking for cruelty. I need specific, useful feedback that helps me understand what is working, what is not, and what could make the novel stronger.
