Contest Brief
We are seeking content for our new travel website, you need to state why people should visit your part of the world, what are its best points, attractions etc.
You can choose any city or town that you are very familiar with and have, or are preferably living in or lived in, this is however not essential.
We truly believe local knowledge is the best knowledge and as such encourage you, the person on the ground to enter.
Competition Outline
We are seeking individuals to help us create a new website by providing content that is written by a local, for a tourist. You will be promoting the best of your country, region, city or suburb, using your local knowledge to help tourist understand why your place is your home, why it’s a place to visit, see, share and enjoy.
There are 2 competitions that will involve written content and / or photographic submissions for our travel website.
You can choose which destination you wish to write about or photograph, you can submit for more than one category.
All submissions will be read / viewed and judged by a panel of selectors; the best submissions will be chosen for each category and used in our new travel website, with attributions given to the writer as well as the nominated cash prize set out below.
There will be 1 prize for each category only, there are a total of 10 prizes with a total prize pool capped at USD5000.00
Content Compliance
The categories for each submission will need to comply with and accept;
• Globally accepted copyright rules and regulations
• Indemnify the domain and website owners and its associates / partners from breach of copyright by using your submitted content.
• Waive your individual copyright to your submitted content.
• Where a contestant submits content, should the content be used at a later date, they may be eligible for a payment not exceeding the amount that would have been awarded within this competition, specifically in relation to the section in which it is used. This shall be at the discretion of the website owner(s).
Written Content
The prize pool for written content will be in the following categories and consist of the following prizes;
• Best overall submission USD2000.00
• Best Destination Country (Example but not limited to Canada, New Zealand, Vietnam) USD1000.00
• Best Region / Province / State (Example but not limited to Texas, USA. Guandong, China) USD 500.00
• Best Capital City (Example but not limited to London, New York, Cairo, Amsterdam) USD 250.00
• Best Suburb (Example but not limited to Seminyak in Bali, Indonesia. Kings Cross in Sydney, Australia. Stratford, London) USD 250.00
Requirements
You will need;
• Good understanding of the English language both written and spoken.
• Access to a computer or tablet.
• Access to the internet for research.
• Have local knowledge of the category you choose to write about.
Photogaphic Content
The prize pool for the photographic section will be in the following categories and consist of the following prizes;
• Photo Best Overall USD 500.00
• Photo that captures the look of the Country (Example but not limited to Canada, New Zealand, Vietnam) USD 250.00
• Photo that captures the uniqueness of the Region / Province / State (Example but not limited to Texas, USA. , China) USD 150.00
• Photo that best identifies the Capital City (Example but not limited to Big Ben, England. Eiffel Tower, Paris) USD 50.00
• Photo that shows the soul of the suburb (Example but not limited to people enjoying themselves in the park, on a lake, in a street cafe) USD 50.00
Be creative, think positive and submit as many photos as you want provided they are .jpeg and in 640 x 480 format.
Requirements
You will need;
• Good understanding of the English language both written and spoken.
• Access to a camera
• Access to the internet for research
• An eye for capturing the essence of a location

pmanester, do you still plan on selecting a winner? Just a bit of friendly advice: contest holders sometimes forget that if they don't select a winner and sign the HANDOVER contract, they legally can't use any of these entries. Hope that helps. Thanks.

And another point, its tourists to decide about our country's outlook not us. It's them to decide to tour it or not not us so stay calm and keep praying in your heart. No need to come public and degrade the dignity of Pakistan by speaking sympathy etc things and making immature comments. What is your mission? Shun tourism in Pakistan by exaggerating its issues... Then for your information, terrorism is a world problem not just in Pakistan. No terrorism has occurred in Lahore, Murree, Swat, Hunza etc. for more than a time span of 2 years that makes it safe to visit them. One Peshawar attack is not a point on which you can say that terrorism is all over Pakistan... As 9/11 is not enough to declare that the whole America was facing terrorism etc.

I would have written about beautiful places of Pakistan which are really very beautiful! But I won't do so as presently my country is suffering from Terrorism! Here in Pakistan, are some places which draw the view of Paradise in eyes but Alas! Please pray for my country!

I wrote an article previously on a place called Jeju in South Korea for another competition and have all the information compiled into a nicely written package, but I was hoping for your input before I submit it. I would like to enter. Does the city have to be a capital? Also could you elaborate on some of the categories? For instance, does "Best country to visit" mean yyour entry has to be about a country in general, or that your city or place is the best therefore the country is the best to visit? HOw exactly does that work? Thanks in advance for your answer.

For this particular competition, it is for a city or town only, the country will be in a different competition. example, if you write about Brussels, then describe the city and what make it worth visiting, attractions and so on.

pmanester, I have a few questions: 1) What is the minimum and maximum word count for written submissions? 2) Should our entries be in the first person and conversational in tone, or do you prefer 3rd person and formal? 3) Since it's a travel website, is preference given to more famous cities/countries, or are less famous places given equal treatment?
