Ongoing 3D CAD Designer — Turn PCBs / Gerbers into Printable Enclosures Overview We design small electronics products and need a reliable CAD designer to produce 3D-printed enclosures for our PCBs. This is recurring work: we release new boards regularly and want a go-to person who can take a board and return a clean, print-ready case that follows our house standard. The core deliverable We hand you a Gerber package or native PCB file (EasyEDA .eprj, plus board outline, drill, and a BOM with LCSC / manufacturer part numbers). You return a finished enclosure modeled to that board. Our enclosure standard (what "done" looks like): - Two-piece shell sized to the board, with correct wall thickness and internal standoffs/bosses for the mounting holes. - Connector cutouts located and sized from the board footprint and connector datasheets — heights resolved from the part numbers in the BOM (e.g. RJ45, USB-A/C, Molex Mini-Fit power, microSD, fan headers). Openings account for the mating plug shell and latch clearance. - Lid retention via friction tongue-and-groove (≈0.15 mm clearance) or a glue-on lid, per board. A base nesting lip with a self-supporting 45° lead-in for registration. - Wall-mount ears (M4) where applicable. - Thermal venting (side-louver intake → top exhaust) for boards with an active fan/heatsink. - Branded lid — our logo/wordmark inlaid as a 2-color feature (we provide the vector art). - Design for FDM: parts must print support-free in a sensible orientation (no floating regions / long unsupported bridges), tuned for Bambu printers in ABS. Deliverables per board: 1. Editable native source (Fusion 360 .f3d preferred; parametric so we can tweak). 2. Watertight STEP (for engineering) + STL + a 2-color 3MF ready to slice. 3. A short note on print orientation, material, and any test-fit tolerances. You should have: - Solid parametric CAD (Fusion 360 or equivalent) with real enclosure / DFM experience. - Comfort reading PCB outlines, footprints, and connector datasheets to place cutouts accurately. - Hands-on FDM 3D-printing knowledge (orientation, clearances, tolerances, multi-color). - Bonus: EasyEDA / KiCad familiarity; experience designing snap-fit and gasket / IP-rated enclosures. - Access to a 3D printer is a plus but not required. How to apply — please read carefully: To prove you actually read this and aren't an auto-bidder, do both: 1. Start your reply with the word "VIKING" (all caps, first word — bids that don't will be ignored). 2. Then, in your own words, answer this: Given a Gerber package and a BOM, how would you determine where to place a connector cutout and how tall to make the opening? One or two sentences is fine — I'm looking for real reasoning, not a generic pitch. Also include: - 2–3 examples of PCB enclosures you've designed (renders + the board they house). - Your typical turnaround per enclosure and your per-case price. Generic copy-paste bids and anything missing the keyword get skipped. We'll start with one board as a paid test — a strong result leads to steady, recurring work.

VIKING Hi, I am an embedded systems engineer with over 16 years of experience taking electronics from PCB stage into practical enclosures for real use, including FDM printed cases, connector clearances, standoffs, lids, wall-mount features, vents, and production-minded tolerances. Given a Gerber package and BOM, I would first align the board outline, drill/mounting data, and footprint positions in CAD, then verify each connector from its manufacturer/LCSC datasheet for body height, centerline, mating plug envelope, latch travel, and insertion clearance. The cutout is then sized around the real connector plus print tolerance, not just the PCB footprint. I can work in Fusion 360 with editable parametric models and deliver STEP, STL, and 3MF files with orientation/material notes for Bambu ABS printing. I am comfortable designing tongue-and-groove lids, glue-on lids, mounting bosses, M4 ears, fan/vent paths, and inlaid two-color branding. I have 2-3 relevant PCB enclosure examples, including small controller, gateway, and power/connector-heavy boards; these cannot be shared publicly, but I can show renders and board context privately. Typical turnaround is 3-5 days per enclosure after receiving complete board files, BOM, connector part numbers, and logo art. My usual per-case price is around $220-$250 depending on connector complexity and fit revisions. Please contact me to discuss details and start with the paid test board.

VIKING Hi, I've read the entire thing and I'll get straight to the point. I have lots of experience with 3d printables, mainly of the artistic kind but I've done some work with functional parts too. I know how to use Fusion 360, I have a 3d printer but its resin not FDM. I understand how to read technical diagrams so I shouldn't have an issue with reading your pcb diagrams. As far as how I'd identify where the cut out should be placed; I'd look for the the size of the board the X,Y of the connector on the diagram. Then through the BOM i'd look for the that specific components dimensions and model the cut out accordingly. The turnaround could be as quick as 1-2 days if it's urgent and I believe I can do it for around 55-75$. How many such designs do you anticipate to have each month?

Hi there, VIKING Given a Gerber package and a BOM, we would determine the connector cutout placement by referencing the board outline and footprint data within the Gerber files, cross-referencing with the connector datasheets specified in the BOM to establish precise dimensions and ensure adequate clearance for mating plugs and latches. The opening height would be resolved by checking the connector part numbers in the BOM against their respective datasheets for overall height dimensions from the PCB surface, adding any necessary tolerance for manufacturing and assembly. Your project for continuous 3D CAD design for electronic enclosures, turning PCBs/Gerbers into 3D-printable enclosures, aligns perfectly with our product development expertise at TRYGVE Studio. We specialize in producing precise CAD models from technical specifications, ensuring designs are functional, manufacturable, and meet specific aesthetic and engineering requirements. We understand the importance of attention to detail regarding wall thickness, internal standoffs, accurate connector cutouts, and design for FDM 3D printing. Our approach involves meticulous development from concept to final model, using industry-standard tools to create parametric designs that allow for future modifications while adhering to your house standards, such as lid retention, wall-mount ears, thermal venting, and branded elements. We would be pleased to discuss your requirements for the initial test board in more detail to confirm the scope and provide a tailored timeline and pricing for this exciting recurring work. VIKING. Hello: My name is Gustavo, and I have been working in industrial design using CAD software for over 20 years. I can design and model electronic enclosures according to the components to be integrated and deliver the native INVENTOR files or generic STEP, STL, and OBJ files. The locations of the connector cutouts will depend on whether the PCB has the ports soldered directly to the board (dependent position) or if the ports connect to the PCB via cables (independent position). The height of the opening must be sufficient to avoid obstructing the connection of external components. In my portfolio, you will find examples of my work in the "ELECTRONIC DEVICE ENCLOSURES" section. Regards
