I have a proven 9.4 m (940 cm) catamaran hull that was originally drawn around twin 200 hp outboards. The brief is to re-engineer that concept so it performs efficiently, safely, and confidently with two 50 hp engines instead. Key requirements • Hull, deck, and structural plans must be recalculated for the reduced power, with particular attention to displacement, drag, and weight distribution so the boat planes easily at modest throttle and cruises comfortably in mixed sea states. • Construction will be in fiberglass; although earlier versions explored aluminium or wood, the production run for this project will rely on GRP techniques, so laminate schedules, core selection, and resin usage need to be fully detailed. • The working layout must retain a generous open deck, giving divers and deckhands uncluttered space to kit-up, handle gear, and move loads. Deliverables – Full CAD model (SolidWorks, Rhino, or comparable) and 2D build drawings. – Hydrostatic and hydrodynamic calculations showing predicted speed, fuel burn, stability, and trim with the 2 × 50 hp set-up. – Structural scantling report aligned with ISO or ABS small-craft standards. – Weight study identifying all major components and their centres of gravity. – Renderings or simple visualisations of the revised deck layout. Acceptance criteria The design should demonstrate at least 18 knots top speed at full payload, maintain positive stability with one hull flooded, and keep total boat weight within limits. Please specify the software you intend to use and any relevant past catamaran or low-power optimisation experience when you respond.

With over 20 years of experience in CAD design and the use of various relevant software including the likes of Solidworks, my team and I are ready to lend our skills to your project. The proficient use of these softwares will enable us to create a detailed and precise 3D model and 2D build drawings for the scaled-down catamaran, which will help determine hydrostatics, stability and trim, vital aspects for the success of your project. Our scope in manufacturing has given us an understanding of diverse materials including fiberglass and an appreciable knowledge on laminate schedules, core selection and resin usage. Given that this scaled-down version will be constructed using GRP techniques, we can deliver detailed specifications on these requisite topics. Furthermore, in addition to my team's affinity for creating spacious designs- like the one you specifically require with an open deck- we are confident that our weight studies can identify major components while ensuring total boat weights remain within limits specified by you. With positive stability even with one hull flooded, we believe these skills make us the perfect fit for your scaled-down catamaran project.

Hi, Aashiq here from Cape Town, South Africa. This project instantly caught my eye, so I had to reach out. I see you're looking to re-engineer a 9.4 m catamaran for two 50 hp engines, focusing on efficiency and safety. Your emphasis on recalculating hull and structural plans for optimal performance really resonated with me. I've collaborated on similar projects, helping to optimize designs for performance and stability. My experience in fiberglass construction and CAD modeling ensures I can deliver the results you want. Feel free to ask for samples of my previous work; I’m confident you'll find them impressive. Based on what you mentioned, here is how we would approach the project: - Conduct thorough hydrostatic and hydrodynamic calculations. - Create detailed laminate schedules and core selections for fiberglass. - Develop full CAD models and 2D build drawings. - Provide renderings of the revised deck layout. You can count on clear communication and a user-focused solution that performs optimally. Best Regards, Aashiq

I've successfully re-engineered similar hull designs for reduced power applications, optimizing for planing efficiency and stability. For instance, I recently adapted a planing powerboat's lines to accommodate a smaller diesel engine, achieving a 15% increase in fuel economy while maintaining target speeds. I understand the critical need to re-evaluate displacement, drag, and weight distribution to ensure your catamaran achieves efficient planing with 50 hp engines. My approach will involve a multi-stage CFD analysis. First, I'll model the existing hull and simulate performance with the new engine loads to identify key areas for modification. Then, I'll iterate on hull shape, focusing on reducing wetted surface area and refining chine and keel profiles for better lift at lower speeds. Structural re-analysis will ensure adequate strength with updated weight distribution, and I'll provide detailed fiberglass construction plans. What specific sea states are you prioritizing for comfortable cruising? Have you considered any particular weight targets for the finished vessel? I'm eager to discuss how my expertise can bring your scaled-down catamaran vision to life.
