SolidWorks Freelancer Needed — Paid CAD Modeling, GD&T Annotations, and 2D Drawings (Aerospace, Automotive, Healthcare) We are looking for experienced SolidWorks freelancers to work on a paid project involving 3D part modeling, Model-Based Definition (MBD) annotations, 2D manufacturing drawings, macro recording, and screen-recorded walkthroughs. This is a remote, part-based engagement with clear deliverables and quality standards. If you have hands-on experience with SolidWorks part and assembly modeling, understand GD&T per ASME Y14.5, and can produce manufacturing-grade documentation, we want to hear from you. Project Overview We are building a pilot dataset of 30 SolidWorks parts distributed across three industry domains: 10 parts for Aerospace 10 parts for Automotive 10 parts for Healthcare / Medical Devices Each part must be modeled from scratch in SolidWorks (2023 or 2024 version preferred), fully annotated with MBD and GD&T, accompanied by a 2D manufacturing drawing, a working macro that rebuilds the part, a structured reasoning log in JSON format, and a screen recording of the entire build process with voiceover or subtitles. Parts span three complexity levels: Easy — 2 to 10 features using standard operations such as extrude, cut, chamfer, and fillet. The operations should be appropriate for the domain. Medium — 10 or more features with more complex shapes, internal cavities, and non-trivial geometry. Hard — 50 or more features involving advanced techniques such as surface modeling and complex multi-body geometry. Some parts will also need to be built as assemblies using parts from the existing set, with proper mate definitions. What You Will Deliver Per Part For every single part you work on, you will deliver the following six files: SolidWorks Part File (.SLDPRT) The part must have a clean, well-formed feature tree. No suppressed features, no rolled-back features, no unused sketches. Every sketch must be fully constrained using sensible constraints. For example, a square should be constrained so all sides are equal through a single constraint, not by manually assigning the same dimension four times. If multiple holes need to be the same size, constrain them together and dimension only one. SolidWorks Drawing File (.SLDDRW) A 2D manufacturing drawing created manually. You must not use the "Make Drawing from Part" auto-generation feature. Views must be deliberately selected and justified. Dimensions must be placed from model geometry with manufacturing intent, not imported from sketch dimensions. GD&T frames must be manually added for every controlled feature. General notes must be included covering default tolerances, material, surface finish, edge treatment, applicable standards, units, and projection method. SolidWorks Macro (.SWP) A recorded macro that can rebuild the part from scratch. The macro must be tested and confirmed to work. Macro quality control is critical — every macro must actually produce the finished part when run. Reasoning Log (.JSON) A structured JSON file documenting every single annotation you place on the part. Each entry must include the annotation ID, category (Datum, Deterministic, or Engineering Judgment), the tolerance type and value, the feature it applies to, the feature's functional role, the datum reference if applicable, the reasoning behind the annotation, which drawing view it appears in and why that view was chosen, and any alternative tolerances you considered and why you chose this one instead. Every reasoning entry must reference the applicable standard (ASME Y14.5-2018 or ISO equivalent). Reasoning that does not mention the feature's function is not acceptable. Screen Recording (.MP4) A full recording of the part being built from start to finish, including voiceover, subtitles, or on-screen annotations providing context for your decisions. This should cover the modeling process, the annotation process, and the drawing creation process. External References (.PDF) Any documents, reference materials, assembly drawings, or resources you used while creating the part and its annotations. MBD and Annotation Requirements in Detail The MBD and drawing work follows a strict three-step process. Step 1: Define Datums Study the part geometry and assign Primary (A), Secondary (B), and Tertiary (C) datums based on how the part mounts, locates, and functions in an assembly. Log each datum with the feature selected, its role, and why you chose that feature for that role. Critical rule: Do not use default SolidWorks planes (Front Plane, Top Plane, Right Plane) as datums. These are infinite theoretical constructs with no physical manufacturing counterpart. They cannot be referenced by a manufacturer or CMM program. Datums must be real physical features of the part — a machined flat face, a bore axis, a flange surface, a pin face. Parts submitted with default planes as datums will be rejected. Step 2: Deterministic Annotations Run the SolidWorks auto-dimensioning scheme (DimXpert) using your selected datums. SolidWorks will generate size dimensions, locations, and position tolerances automatically. Then review and refine every auto-generated annotation. Delete redundant or duplicate dimensions. Correct wrong datum references. Add any missing features manually. Replace incorrect dimension types or tolerance values. Log every deterministic annotation with the feature, what was placed, whether it was unchanged, corrected, or manually added, and the reasoning behind it. If you corrected something, document what SolidWorks placed, what you changed it to, and why. Step 3: Engineering Judgment Annotations Identify features that need tolerances the auto-dimensioning tool cannot produce. These are form controls, orientation controls, surface conditions, and runout controls — things like flatness, cylindricity, perpendicularity, runout, and profile tolerances. For each feature, ask yourself: What does this feature do? What mates to it? What fails if this tolerance is missing? Manually place each annotation on both the 3D model and in the 2D drawing in the view that best shows the controlled feature. Automatic Rejection Criteria The following will result in immediate rejection of your submission: Datums set to default SolidWorks planes (Front Plane, Top Plane, Right Plane) 2D drawing generated using "Make Drawing from Part" without manual reconstruction MBD consisting only of DimXpert auto-generated output with no engineering judgment additions Reasoning log entries with no reference to applicable standards Drawing views left empty or with no documented justification for view selection Tolerances left at SolidWorks defaults with no engineering rationale for the values chosen Macros that do not successfully rebuild the part when run Skills Required Must have: Strong hands-on experience with SolidWorks part modeling and assemblies (version 2023 or 2024 preferred) Working knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5-2018 or equivalent ISO standards Ability to create fully constrained sketches with clean feature trees Experience creating 2D manufacturing drawings manually (not auto-generated) Ability to record and test SolidWorks macros Screen recording capability with voiceover or subtitle annotations Familiarity with at least one of the target domains: aerospace, automotive, or healthcare Good to have: Experience with DimXpert and MBD workflows in SolidWorks Background in manufacturing engineering or design for manufacturing Experience with surface modeling and complex multi-body parts Understanding of CMM inspection and how GD&T callouts translate to measurement Domain Knowledge You do not need to be an expert in all three domains, but you should be comfortable modeling parts that are realistic for your chosen domain. Aerospace parts might include brackets, housings, turbine blade profiles, or structural fittings. Automotive parts might include brake caliper brackets, engine mount brackets, transmission housings, or suspension components. Healthcare parts might include surgical instrument handles, implant housings, prosthetic connectors, or diagnostic device enclosures. Each domain has its own set of standard operations and tolerancing conventions, and your work should reflect that. How This Works This is paid per part. Compensation depends on complexity level and will be discussed after we review your sample work. We will start with a small test assignment (one part) to evaluate your work against the quality standards described above before assigning additional parts. This is fully remote work. You will need your own licensed copy of SolidWorks (2023 or 2024), screen recording software, and a microphone if doing voiceover.
