I am looking for a skilled mechanical engineer or product designer to develop a fully functional locking mechanism for a dog collar connector (male and female parts). This is not just a visual 3D modeling task. I need a real, working mechanical system with proper internal logic and engineering. Project overview: The product is a compact, premium connector for a dog collar that allows easy one-hand operation. It consists of two parts (male and female) that connect באמצעות מנגנון נעילה פנימי חכם. Core functionality: The system must include a spring-loaded pin inside the male part and an internal locking mechanism inside the female part. The connection should be assisted by magnets, but the magnets are strictly for alignment only and must not play any role in locking. How the mechanism should work: When the user brings the two parts close together, magnets (two in each part, aligned top and bottom) help position them correctly. Once aligned, the user presses a single button. This action pushes a spring-loaded pin from the male part into the female part. When the pin reaches the end inside the female part, an internal locking mechanism must automatically engage and securely lock the pin in place. After locking, the two parts must not be able to separate under pulling force. To release the connection, the user presses the same button again. This second press must: 1. Release the internal locking mechanism inside the female part 2. At the same time retract the pin fully back into the male housing After that, the two parts can be separated easily with one hand. The pin must not remain exposed after release. Technical requirements: * One-button control for both locking and unlocking * Smooth, reliable mechanical movement * Strong locking force suitable for medium to large dogs (approximately 20–40 kg pulling force) * Precise fit between male and female parts (tight but not causing friction issues) * Compact and premium design (not bulky or oversized) * Pin should be relatively thin and precise, not large or protruding unnecessarily * Internal mechanism must be properly engineered (not a simple friction or placeholder solution) Magnets: * Two magnets in the male part and two in the female part * Positioned one above and one below the pin * Perfect alignment between both sides * Used only for positioning, not for locking Size constraints: * Width: approximately 25–35 mm * Length: approximately 15–25 mm * Maximum thickness: around 8–12 mm * Overall design should remain slim and comfortable for a collar Materials (for future production): * Outer housing: durable plastic (such as ABS or Nylon, suitable for injection molding) * Pin: metal (preferably stainless steel) * Spring: metal * Internal locking components: strong plastic or metal depending on design Manufacturing approach: The first version will be prototyped using 3D printing. However, the design must already consider future mass production using injection molding, including tolerances and assembly logic. Deliverables: * Full mechanical design (male and female parts) * All internal components * Functional assembly * Exploded view * STEP and STL files ready for prototyping * Clear engineering logic behind the mechanism Important: This project requires real mechanical thinking and problem-solving. I am not looking for a simple visual model or copied design. The internal mechanism must be properly designed, reliable, and functional. Please share examples of similar mechanical or locking systems you have designed.

Hi! I'm Abu, Top 30 SolidWorks freelancer with 12+ years in mechanical and consumer product design, including spring-loaded locking mechanisms, push-button release assemblies, snap connectors, and precision two-part mating components for daily-use consumer hardware. I understand you need a fully functional, engineered two-part dog collar connector — male and female — with a spring-loaded pin in the male part, an internal auto-locking mechanism in the female part, magnetic alignment (not locking) using two magnets per part, single-button operation for both locking and unlocking, strong enough for 20–40 kg pulling force, precise tight fit without friction issues, compact and premium in appearance, with the pin not exposed after release. This is a real mechanical engineering task, not visual modelling — and it is exactly the type of precision mechanism work I deliver. Spring-loaded pin travel, internal latch geometry, button actuation path, magnet pocket sizing, and male-female fit tolerance are all critical, and I design each element with correct clearances and spring force assumptions from the first model. Deliverables: fully detailed SolidWorks CAD of both parts with internal mechanism geometry, STEP files, section view renders showing mechanism in locked and released states, and a brief mechanism operation note. Ready to start immediately — please confirm target overall connector size and preferred material (ABS, nylon, or metal) so I can begin the mechanism layout.

Hi, I am looking for a functional locking mechanism for a dog collar connector — male and female parts, proper mechanical engineering, not just visual modeling. We have 8+ years of experience in similar projects. To achieve better results, I would suggest using a dual-stage rotary lock with a spring-loaded ball bearing detent instead of a push-button latch — push buttons fail after 5,000 cycles in muddy/outdoor tests, but rotary detent systems exceed 20,000 cycles and self-clear debris when rotated. We are available to start right away and can deliver before your timeline. Let's discuss the details. Hi there, I am a Mechanical Design Engineer with extensive experience in parametric hardware engineering and complex internal kinetics. I specialize in using Fusion 360 to design functional, high-load locking mechanisms with tight tolerances, engineered directly for injection molding and DFM. My Plan: Push-Push Internal Logic: I will engineer a robust heart-cam or alternating latch mechanism (similar to a premium retractable pen cycle) to handle the single-button lock/retract sequence. Force & Magnet Integration: I'll size the stainless steel pin and internal catches to easily withstand 40 kg of pulling force while embedding dual alignment magnets into a slim, 10mm-thick housing. Prototyping Ready: You will receive optimized STEP/STL files with balanced clearances for clean 3D printing and seamless assembly. Best regards, Shahzaib
