Thanks for your submissions. We have narrowed down our choice to a few potential illustrators and wish to undertake a test trial to see whom can create the best illustrations and who is easiest to work with.
How this will work?
We have attached a sketch of a scene from our book which we’d like you to illustrate, and complete to a final image.
Key points relating to the illustration:
The old man in the image should look healthy, happy and fit (he is 100 years old, so you can still show him to be ‘old’ but he needs to look strong, fit and healthy. We’d like him to have a big smile.
The child in the scene should look like they could be a boy or girl (so don’t make the child look particularly like a boy or girl – so don’t use blue or pink colours etc.)
The vegetables/foods on the bench should be colourful and include many varieties of different colours (e.g. tomatoes, bananas, cucumbers, eggs, fish, eggplant, nuts, carrots, celery, spinach, lettuce, beetroot, pumpkin, grapes, apples, capsicum, chilli, beans etc.). The foods should look really vibrant. Children should be able to pick what types of vegetables, fruits or foods they are – so the shape and colours need to be clear to the reader.
The lines coming from the bench and onto the child is a rainbow.
What we require
Can you please confirm your cost to complete this one sample illustration in its entirety based on our sketch and notes. We'll then confirm the final candidates to complete the trial.
At this stage the image size will be 200mm tall x 280mm wide plus bleeds etc.
If you have questions about anything, please let me know.
The person who we choose will end up illustrating 14 illustrations in total, including the front title cover, provided agreeance upon cost.
