## PROJECT BRIEF – PDE2317: Design and Engineering in Context I need you to complete this assignment properly and to a high standard. There are two parts, each worth 50%. Follow everything carefully. For the case study, you will be focusing on a consumer technology product – specifically an iPhone. --- ## PART 1: REFLECTIVE PORTFOLIO (2000 WORDS TOTAL) You need to write four separate pieces (500 words each). Each one must follow this structure: ### Structure for EACH piece: 1. Summary Explain the topic clearly using what’s been taught plus extra research. It must be accurate and supported with references. 2. Personal Reflection Explain how the topic has changed or developed your thinking. Include specific examples of what you learned and how it affects your future in design/engineering. 3. Action Steps Explain what you would do next. This could be further research, skills you want to improve, courses, or people you’d connect with. Be specific. --- ### You MUST cover all 4 topics: 1. Commercial, legal, financial, ethical and environmental context of design and engineering, and how it impacts society 2. Professional and ethical conduct, including equality, diversity and inclusion in a work environment 3. Product lifecycle analysis, including waste, recycling and compliance 4. Intellectual property and contracts in design and engineering --- ## PART 2: CASE STUDY (1500 WORDS) You will analyse the iPhone as a consumer technology product. --- ### Your case study must include: 1. Product Overview Explain what the iPhone is, what it does, and who it is for (Include its main features like communication, apps, camera, ecosystem, etc.) --- 2. Market Analysis Analyse the smartphone industry and Apple’s position in the market Include: - Market trends (e.g. demand for smartphones, innovation trends) - Competitors (e.g. Samsung, Google) - Apple’s market strategy and positioning Use proper sources (reports, articles, data — not guesses) --- 3. Risk Management Identify and explain risks related to the iPhone, such as: - Battery safety issues - Data privacy and security risks - Environmental impact (materials, e-waste) - Supply chain risks Explain how these risks are managed or reduced --- 4.
