I need to quantify the imaginary (complex-valued) band gaps of an acoustic metamaterial I am designing in COMSOL Multiphysics. The structure is strictly periodic, and the goal is to validate that it delivers both precise sound-wave control and high sound-insulation performance. The study must cover: • Setting up the unit-cell geometry with Bloch-Floquet boundary conditions, • Running an eigenfrequency or wave eigenvalue study across the first Brillouin zone, • Extracting real and imaginary parts of the dispersion relation, clearly indicating stop-bands, • Providing plots, data tables, and a concise explanation of how the gaps relate to sound-wave attenuation. Acceptance criteria – Model solves without errors on COMSOL 6.x standard licensing. – Dispersion plots show an imaginary band gap within the audible range we discuss. – Documentation is clear enough for a graduate-level user to rerun the simulation from scratch. Feel free to suggest practical mesh strategies, solver settings, or parametric sweeps that could sharpen the results while keeping computation times reasonable.
