Hello, I have the equivalent to an Arduino Mega 2560 and I am not a programmer. I have 128 x 64 Dot Matrix LCD made by Duinotech. I have 2 thermocouples attached to MAX6675. I also have 4 relays on a PCB to turn on with 5VDC and a separate 12VDC power supply to power my Mega 2560 from Keyestudio. I have a wood fired boiler with a 1000 litre storage tank, so I need to control the air flow to the fire to maintain the water temperature in it's jacket. One thermocouple is a K type to measure the jacket temperature of the water. I have a 240VAC geared motor that rotates to open and close the air shutter to the fire. The pin on the disc of the motor does the opening and closing with 3 micro switches to stop the motor in 3 given positions, 1st for fully open, 2nd for half open, 3rd for the closed position. So when the temperature of the boiler jacket is between 0 and 83 degrees C, the first relay will turn on and will turn off with I/O No2. This opens the air shutter for the fire. When the temperature of the boiler jacket is between 83 and 85 degrees C, the first relay will still turn on, but it will be turned off with I/O No3. This leaves the air shutter half open to slow the fire down. When the temperature of the boiler jacket is between 85 and 90 degrees C the first relay will still turn on, but it will be turned off with I/O No4. This leaves the air shutter closed to further slow down the fire. The second relay is to turn on when the temperature of the boiler jacket is 55 degrees C and above. This will turn on a water pump to circulate the water from the boiler to the storage tank. A second K type thermocouple is in the storage tank, and when the temperature reaches 72 degrees the pump is to turn off. At 68 degrees in the storage tank, the pump is to be turned on again and so forth. When the temperature of the boiler jacket is between 90 and 110 degrees C the third relay is to turn on. This turns on a stream of cold water to cool the water jacket down until the threshold is 90 degrees C or less. It needs to turn on a LED to flash for 1 sec on and 1 sec off from I/O No 20. This will be turned off with I/O No 30 using a momentary switch. Also the flue has a fan installed at the top which will be operated when the air shutter for the fire is in the open or half open positions. It is to be turned off when the air shutter is closed. Relay No1 will be switched on with I/O No 50 Relay No2 will be switched on with I/O No 51 Relay No3 will be switched on with I/O No 52 Relay No4 will be switched on with I/O No 53 128 x 64 Dot Matrix LCD Display Module, pin 1 = GND -GND pin 2 = VCC - 5VDC pin 4 = RS -I/O No 11 pin 5 = R/W -I/O No 12 pin 6 = E -I/O No13 pin 15 =PSB -GND pin 17 = RST -5VDC pin 19 = BLA -GND pin 20 = BLK DISPLAY TO READ BOILER (and temperature in degrees C) STORED (and temperature in degrees C) I/O No 21 when pump is on LED green I/O No 22 when pump is off LED red I/O No 23 when fan is on LED green I/O No 24 when fan is off LED red I/O No 25 when air shutter is open LED green I/O No 26 when air shutter is half open LED yellow I/O No 27 when air shutter is closed LED red To the person who can understand my project, could you please quote so as this can be [login to view URL] state the currency. Hi Daryl, I completely understand your system—it's a classic state-machine control logic with temperature hysteresis. I can have the full Arduino code, wiring diagram, and a clear operational guide ready for you within 5 days. With a Master's in Electronics and 10+ years of embedded systems work, I've built dozens of similar industrial control and monitoring setups. I'm comfortable with the Mega, MAX6675 thermocouple interfaces, and driving relays based on precise temperature windows. Here’s exactly how I’ll tackle it: I’ll write clean, well-commented Arduino code that reads both thermocouples continuously and implements the hysteresis logic you described—so the pump doesn't chatter on/off at the threshold points. The motor control sequence will be handled with proper debouncing on your microswitches and relay sequencing to ensure smooth operation. For the display, I’ll get your 128x64 LCD showing boiler temp, storage temp, and status indicators clearly. I'll map all your I/O assignments exactly as specified—Relay 1 on pin 50, pump on 51, cooling on 52, flue fan on 53, plus all your LED indicators. I’ll also add simple but essential protections: temperature averaging to avoid false triggers, failsafe states if a thermocouple fails, and a manual override input for safety. The flue fan logic will follow the air shutter position exactly as you described. To get started, I just need to confirm: are your microswitches normally open or normally closed, and do you want the cooling LED to flash continuously until the momentary switch is pressed? Once I have those two details, I'll dive right in. If this sounds good, just accept and I'll have your system running smoothly.

Hi, I am an embedded systems engineer with over 16 years of experience developing Arduino-based control systems and taking consumer products from concept through production, including firmware support and hardware bring-up. I understand the required boiler logic: MAX6675 temperature monitoring, three-position shutter control through limit switches, pump hysteresis based on boiler and tank temperatures, over-temperature cooling and alarm acknowledgement, flue fan control, status LEDs, and the 128×64 LCD display. I would implement this as a clear non-blocking state machine with sensor-fault detection, temperature hysteresis, safe startup states, timeout protection for shutter movement, and documented pin assignments. I will provide the complete Mega 2560 firmware, wiring guidance, configuration comments, and support while you test it on the equipment. One point to confirm: does the geared motor rotate continuously in one direction, with Relay 1 powering it until the selected microswitch is reached, and is Relay 4 intended for the flue fan? My quote is AUD 300. I would be glad to discuss the wiring and operating sequence with you before finalising the firmware.

Hi Daryl, I've gone through your wood-fired boiler control system in detail, and this is exactly the kind of embedded automation project I specialize in. With 15+ years working on Arduino/ARM-based control systems, I can confidently handle your Mega 2560 setup with the MAX6675 thermocouple modules, the 4-relay board, and the 128x64 Duinotech dot matrix LCD. Your logic temperature-banded air shutter control (open/half-open/closed via 3 micro-switches), the storage tank pump hysteresis (68°C–72°C), the cold-water safety cooling stage with a flashing LED, and the flue fan tied to shutter position is a well-defined state machine, and I'll implement it cleanly in C/C++ using the Arduino IDE with clear, commented code so you (or anyone else) can follow the logic later even without a programming background. My approach: I'll map all your I/O pins exactly as specified (relays on 50-53, LCD on 11-13, status LEDs on 21-27, etc.), build a non-blocking state machine (no delay() blocking, so the LCD, thermocouples, and switches all stay responsive), add debounce handling for the micro-switches, and test each temperature threshold and relay transition individually before final integration. I'll also add basic safety fallbacks (e.g., sensor fault detection on the MAX6675) since this controls a live fire and pressurized water system. For the full firmware development, testing, and documentation, my quote is USD 350, with delivery in 7-10 days.

Daryl, this is a proper control system you've designed — multiple temperature zones, a 3-position motor, and a pump that needs hysteresis logic. I've done plenty of Arduino firmware for heating systems, so I can see exactly how this needs to be structured. → I'll build the full state machine: fire control, pump cycling between 72/68°C, and the cooling water at 90°C → I'll wire up the LCD, all LEDs, and the flashing alarm with the momentary switch to reset it → Around $250 AUD for the complete sketch, delivered in 2 days, tested against your logic I'll make the code clean and commented so you can tweak temperatures yourself later. Happy to chat if you want to go through the details first.

Hi Daryl, Your logic is clear to me. Mega 2560, ST7920 128x64 in parallel mode (PSB to GND, RS/RW/E on 11/12/13), two MAX6675 sharing SPI with separate CS, relays on 50 to 53. Shutter: relay1 runs the motor, stopped by the switch on IO2 (0-83C), IO3 (83-85C) or IO4 (85-90C). Pump relay2 on at 55C boiler, tank off at 72C, on again at 68C. Relay3 cooling water 90-110C with 1s flash LED on pin 20, latched until the button on pin 30. Relay4 fan follows open and half only. LEDs 21 to 27, BOILER and STORED on the LCD. I will also add switch debounce, a motor timeout if a limit switch is missed, and a thermocouple fault check so the shutter never sits open on a bad reading. On a wood boiler that matters. I design hardware in Altium too, so later I can give you a small plug-in shield to replace jumper wires, the usual failure point in a hot boiler room. Commented code, a wiring sheet, and support until it runs on your machine. Price in AUD. Regards, ShengLin Gu.
