We are doing a prototype automatic gearbox conversion/update on my car (needed repairing anyway!).
A 5 speed auto is being replaced by a 6 speed auto. The conversion is done and working apart from from one very minor, but annoying niggle. The gear number display in the instrument cluster (currently a seven segment LED) isn't showing 6 for 6th gear.
I do not plan to interfere with any ECU instrument cluster programming, but have an idea to fix the gear display by "cheating" using an add-on module.
The new gearbox has 6 speeds and the old one had 5 speeds. All the original codes were mirrored and work fine, so display happily shows 1-5, but because there never was a 6th gear the car's cluster does not recognise the code - even though the gearbox ECU is sending out a code to display "6" via CAN Bus.
I need someone who can design an Arduino project to connect to the CAN Bus, recognise the correct codes and drive a 7 segment LED to display A, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 (I have been assured the specific codes needed can be supplied for me to pass to the developer, but will double check before placing any order).
A small matrix display might be even better - to display A, S, N, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
I would simply physically replace the display LED and driver in the instrument cluster with the new Arduino driven one.
I know nothing about Arduino, so would need guidance about what to buy, etc, etc.
Ideally I would like to be able to buy as a completed project including preprogrammed hardware if possible.
At the end of the day the problem is to change a display digit and will not affect the car's actual function.
