I am CEO of a small Not for Profit Disability Support Service. One of our employees has been charged with defrauding one of our disabled clients. We dismissed the individual within hours of hearing of the concerns from family and have continued to support the client and family. We have cooperated with Police investigations and supplied them with all relevant documents. The client and family do not hold our service responsible for the actions of the individual and continue to use us as their primary support service. In recognition of the financial duress the actions of our employee put the client in, our Board of Management made a sizeable "financial hardship" payment to the client. There were no strings attached to the payment. The former employee is due to front court in the coming weeks and I am advised that they will be pleading guilty to fraud. In an industry where reputation is paramount, I am looking to prepare a communication strategy for clients, staff and in response to any media queries should our organisation be named.
