I need a travel article written for the December 2018 issue of National Seniors Australia's quarterly magazine, 50 Something. The topic is the Oberammergau Passion Play, an event held every 10 years, along with an associated tour from London via Paris, Burgundy and Lucerne to Oberammergau for the play, then on to Rome via Innsbruck, Venice, Tuscany, Pisa and Florence.
Seeking God’s protection from the plague, which was decimating the population of Europe in the 1640s, the citizens of the tiny village of Oberammergau in Germany's Bavarian Alps made a solemn vow to perform a Passion Play every decade. Passion Plays – depicting the passion (suffering), death and resurrection of Jesus Christ – were common features of mediaeval Christian piety, and were often performed by travelling troupes of players and evangelists.
The villagers have kept their promise for almost four centuries, with performances every decade year.
Full tour details can be found at [login to view URL] The article would not need to cover all stops, but focus on the highlights, and obviously include some detail of the Passion Play event.
The deadline for this article, which needs to be about 600 words, is 31 October. Payment is A$60 per 100 words.
