Narration tool for Powerpoint

We're looking to engage a developer to create an easily installed, simple-to-use Powerpoint add-on for recording live, slide-by-slide narrations. The add-on should work on PC and Mac systems and give user the option of either audio or video narration in the Powerpoint authoring session. The utility will autodetect any connected sound recording or webcam device active on the users machine. A floating pane over each slide will show the sound waveform (in the case of live audio narration) or the video feed (in a default 320 x 240 pixel size in the case of live video narration). Narration clips will be saved within the same folder as the Powerpoint presentation and automatically inserted into the visible Powerpoint slide. A graphic icon will be placed automatically in the upper left corner slide to launch the slide's inserted sound narration, or a still image from the speaker's video clip will be placed in the same position to launch the slide's video narration. Before the user closes the Powerpoint presentation, the media narration add-on will check whether each slide in the presentation has a linked media clip. If it detects that one or more slides lack such narration, the utility will give the option for the user to click on the slides to complete the narrations. Once the utility has confirmed that all of the slides have narrations, it will offer the option to \"pack and send\" the Powerpoint and its associated media clips to one or more designated recipients. Choosing this option will result in the add-on automatically compressing the files into a .zip or .rar format, opening the user's email client, and creating a file attachment in a new message.

## Deliverables

The Openworld narration utility, once installed in a Mac or PC based Powerpoint program, will appear as a Powerpoint toolbar icon (and menu item) to generate real-time, slide-by-slide recordings. Clicking on this Openworld toolbar icon or menu item will launch a small popup that asks whether the user wants to record audio or video narration in the Powerpoint authoring session. (This popup will also inform the user that each slide's narration should be at least 10 seconds in length.) Based on the user's narration preference, the add-on will autodetect any connected sound recording or webcam device active on the users machine. It will display in floating pane over the currently visible slide the sound waveform (in the case of live audio narration) or the video feed (in a default 320 x 240 pixel size in the case of live video narration). Buttons to "start recording" and "stop recording" will generate a .wav, .avi, .mpg, or .mov clip for each slide's narration. (If the media clip for a slide is less than 10 seconds in length, the user will be notified and immediately prompted to re-record). Each time the user clicks on the "stop recording" button for a narration that exceeds 10 seconds, a popup will give options to "preview", "re-record", or "accept" the newly-created clip. If the user chooses "accept", the media clip will be saved within the same folder as the Powerpoint presentation and automatically inserted into the visible Powerpoint slide. (A unique media clip filename will be generated by the narration utility based on the name of the Powerpoint presentation and date-time of the media clip creation). A graphic icon will be placed automatically in the upper left corner slide to launch the slide's inserted sound narration, or a still image from the speaker's video clip will be placed in the same position to launch the slide's video narration. The utility will then automatically advance to the next slide in the Powerpoint presentation so the next narration can be recorded. The floating pane with recording controls will remain visible in Normal view for each slide in the Powerpoint presentation, until the recording pane is dismissed by the user. Once the user chooses to exit the Powerpoint presentation itself, the media narration utility will check whether each slide in the presentation has a linked media clip of the required minimum 10 second duration. If it detects that one or more slides lack such narration, the utility will generate a popup list showing which slides are still lacking audio or video clips, and give the option for the user to click on the slides to complete the narrations. (The user can save and exit a Powerpoint presentation without completing narrations. In this case, however, the utility should generate a popup list of the slides lacking narrations the next time that Powerpoint file is reopened in Powerpoint's "Normal" authoring view.) Once the utility has confirmed that all of the slides have narrations, it will offer the option to "pack and send" the Powerpoint file and its associated media clips to one or more designated recipients. Choosing this option will result in the add-on automatically compressing the files into a .zip or .rar format, opening the user's email client, and creating a file attachment in a new message. (We expect each user will have [url removed, login to view] or similar solutions for efficient background transfer of large files). This utility will be developed by our contractor on a work-for-hire basis, with Openworld Learning retaining all rights to the delivered product. A working prototype should be delivered within 20 days of project start, with the final deliverable (including documentation) to be completed within 10 days of our review of the prototype. Additional clarification of requirements: 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done.

2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables):

a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment.

b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request.

3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement).
