The attached spreadsheet contains 3619 rows of "bad" (incorrect) URLs (mostly 404 errors) in hyperlinks on our BigCommerce site. This project is to fix all 3619 cases according to these instructions:
In the spreadsheet:
Column A = The "Bad" URL in a hyperlink (i.e., the URL to be replaced or deleted)
Column B = The "good" URL to replace the URL in Column A with OR
If Column B contains the words "REMOVE HYPERLINK (unlink)," then simply delete the hyperlink in Column A.
Column C = the URL of the page where you will find the "bad URL" that you will edit (that you will replace or remove).
Only delete hyperlinks if Column B contains the words "REMOVE HYPERLINK (unlink),"
All of the "bad URLs" already have 301 redirects to the "good URL" (replacement URL).
The scope of this project is to look for and correct (or delete, as the case may be) links primarily in the HTML of the Product Description box. It's possible that some of the URLs on the spreadsheet that are generating 4xx errors are embedded somewhere beyond the Product Description, header, right sidebar and footer. If the URLs are embedded somewhere in code that is not in the HTML of the Product Description Box, then please make note of these in the spreadsheet, and we can discuss how to handle those - perhaps for example in a second project (because that sort of editing is beyond the scope of this project).
For your reference:
The following are common 4xx codes and their definitions:
- 400 Bad Request.
- 401 Unauthorized.
- 402 Payment Required.
- 403 Forbidden.
- 404 Not Found <- this is by far the most common
- 405 Method Not Allowed.
- 406 Not Acceptable.
- 407 Authentication Required.
