Dear Sir, In the first two weeks, there will be focus on cross functional working to identify the gaps. However, at times it will be required to take an inside view of the individual functions as may be necessary. This will identify the action points. Once the action points are identified, the action plan for boosting the efficiency can be proposed. I have been working in project industry. Often I have seen the gap in understanding of customer requirements in the executing team. In a particular contract, a payment milestone is related to the submission of initial documents. The project manager obviously understands this as this will enable cash flow. However, the team member working on these documents(from other function), is working with his own speed, unaware of the seriousness of the cash in flow. This was resolved by – 1) Discussing the contract with all stakeholders through a contract meeting. 2) Discussing the milestones related to payment terms. 3) Preparing a milestone schedule(to start with) in discussion with related stakeholders. This was a recurring exercise for a few projects. Over time, all the stakeholders began feeling that they are an important part of the project, more than their daily routine. This has set the tone for all future projects. This improvement in initial submissions has also gained customer confidence that the executing team has already commenced working on the project and the delivery of required inputs has commenced.
