The part of this that decides whether a mid-career pivot works is evidence, not courses. Most people arrive with a list of certificates and no artifact a hiring manager can examine. So the roadmap I build ends in something concrete: one project that uses their existing domain, shipped and written up, where they can defend every decision. A supply chain analyst moving into ML is far more credible with one demand-forecasting project on real data from their own industry than with four certificates. On CVs, the honest version of the advice is that AI-role screening is two passes. A recruiter scan that wants titles and tools in the first third, and a hiring manager who reads for scope: what decision did your work change, on what data size, with what result. Rewriting for keywords alone gets the interview and loses it. For mock interviews, the failure I see most often is candidates who can describe a model but cannot defend the metric. Why F1 and not recall here, what does a false positive cost this business. That is where mid-career people lose to fresher candidates who have drilled it. I have been through this transition myself and I mentor engineers into AI roles, so the sessions run as working sessions, not lectures.
