Understanding change and its underpinning and emerging dynamics are crucial areas for the success and sustainability of organisations. This module aims to encourage critical analysis and evaluation of emerging issues, situations, threats and opportunities when change unfolds within organisations, and aims to examine and assess how the influence of organisation dynamics may shape perceptions, interventions and responses.
Due date: 31 March late night
Given the ideas introduced in the paragraphs above, you are required to research, plan and write an individual 3000 word essay which, draws on the themes of the Module, to critically evaluate an aspect of organisational dynamics that influences leading and managing of change within organisations. Your experience/observations of change should be used to support your critical evaluation and commentary.
Indicative themes introduced within the module will include;
Organisation culture and change
Psychology of change
Leadership and Organisational Change
Organisational politics, power and change
Organisation learning and change
Change agents, consultancy and change
Applying theory to organisation case studies
Generating ideas for the assignment
Your focus can be shaped from ideas gathered from a range of sources including;
• Your reading and research into current examples of organisation change discussed in the media etc.
• Your research and reading of the academic literature, including the range of academic journals available through the University Library
• Discussions with family, friends, work colleagues, managers etc. that may surface their experience and stories of change
• Opportunities for developing your own management and leadership practice in the context of organisation change.
• Your focus should acknowledge that this is a distinct element of assessment and should not use material previously submitted for assessment in other modules.
Initially identify possible options for choosing and shaping a focus, and then select what you feel is the most appropriate focus for your paper in line with the assignment requirements. This choice of focus and your ideas on how you intend to develop the paper should be presented for discussion within your Action Learning Set. There will be opportunities for Action Learning set discussions within class sessions, to supplement your study and meetings outside of the timetabled class meetings.
