Technical Specification: CM4 Carrier Board Modification There is an existing Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 carrier board project in KiCAD [login to view URL] The task is to optimize it to meet our requirements — specifically, to replace the standard 40-pin header and other connectors with individual JST connectors. All changes must be made within the same KiCAD project so that we can make further modifications independently. When removing a component that will not be used, all of its supporting circuitry and any other components that existed solely to support the removed component must also be removed — nothing should remain on the board that serves no purpose. Added a file of full technical specifications for development.

HI, KINDLY READ THROUGH MY PROPOSAL WHAT I CAN DO I will take the official Raspberry Pi CM4IO KiCAD project and optimize it exactly to your specifications: replace all specified connectors with clean JST-GH/XH types, completely remove unused components and their supporting circuitry, add the DS3231 RTC with charging circuit, integrate the BME280 sensor, and keep the project fully editable for future changes. MY APPROACH ✅ Work directly inside the original CM4IO KiCAD project ✅ Remove J8, HDMI, USB, SD card, headers, and all associated circuitry (voltage selectors, pull-ups, etc.) ✅ Replace with precise JST-GH 1.25 connectors per Table 2 (Vid-D, Vid-A, ADS, Curr, Trans, etc.) with correct pinouts ✅ Implement DS3231SN# RTC + charging circuit + 1060TR battery holder ✅ Add BME280 with I²C on GPIO3/5 and supporting components ✅ Clean schematic hierarchy and optimized PCB layout RELEVANT PROJECTS Custom CM4 carrier board modifications in KiCAD, including aggressive cleanup, JST connector conversions. DELIVERABLES • Fully modified, clean KiCAD project (schematic + PCB) • Updated BOM and 3D models • Modification summary document QUESTIONS 1. Do you have any preference on JST-GH connector color coding or exact footprint variants? 2. Should the BME280 be placed in a specific location on the board? 3. Any additional constraints on board size or layer count? Ready to start immediately after confirmation. I can deliver the first revised version quickly.

Hi I am an embedded systems engineer with over 16 years of experience in custom carrier boards, connector remapping, KiCad PCB cleanup, and production-ready hardware design. I can modify the Raspberry Pi CM4 IO board project directly in KiCad, replacing the 40-pin header and specified connectors with individual JST connectors while keeping the design clean and editable for your team. My approach would be to first review your full technical specification, map every removed connector to the new JST pinout, then remove any unused supporting circuitry so the board does not keep unnecessary parts, nets, or layout clutter. I will also check schematic consistency, footprints, mechanical placement, routing impact, DRC/ERC issues, and provide the updated KiCad project files so you can continue modifying them independently. A few details I would confirm before starting are the exact JST series/part numbers, current rating requirements, cable direction constraints, and whether you want manufacturing outputs regenerated as part of the delivery.

Hi, The biggest risk in this project is not replacing the connectors—it is ensuring that the modified CM4 carrier board remains electrically robust, manufacturable, and fully functional after removing unused circuitry and redesigning the interfaces around JST connectors. I have 30 years of experience in Raspberry Pi CM4 hardware, KiCad PCB design, embedded systems, and production-ready carrier board development and optimization. For this project, I would focus on: ✅ Modifying the existing CM4 KiCad project while preserving compatibility and maintainability for future revisions. ✅ Replacing the standard connectors with appropriate JST connectors and updating schematics and PCB layouts accordingly. ✅ Removing all unnecessary supporting circuitry and components associated with eliminated interfaces to keep the design clean and optimized. The goal is to deliver a streamlined and production-ready CM4 carrier board that meets your specific connector requirements while maintaining full functionality and ease of future development. A couple of questions: 1. Which specific JST series and pin counts are required for each interface? 2. Are there any size constraints or mechanical changes that need to be considered during the redesign? If you message me, I can outline the most practical modification strategy, schematic cleanup process, and PCB update approach for your CM4 carrier board. Best regards, Prat PCB Must Innovations

Hello, I'd be happy to help with this CM4 carrier board modification project. I have more than 10 years of experience in electronics and PCB design, and I frequently work on Raspberry Pi CM4/CM5 carrier boards in KiCad. Recent projects include mobile robot carrier boards with dual cameras, NVMe SSD, LoRa, IMU,, RTC-Watchdg, battery management systems, as well as industrial boards featuring Ethernet, RS485, CAN, HDMI, and relay control. For this project, I understand that the existing Raspberry Pi CM4 IO Board KiCad design will be used as the baseline. I can replace the 40-pin GPIO header and other specified connectors with JST connectors while keeping all modifications within the original KiCad project, making future updates straightforward for your team. I also understand the requirement to fully clean up the design. Any connector or feature that is removed will be reviewed together with its supporting circuitry, and any components that no longer serve a purpose will be removed from both the schematic and PCB One important aspect of CM4 carrier board design is the presence of multiple high-speed and differential interfaces. Even when making relatively simple modifications, care must be taken to preserve signal integrity, routing constraints, return current paths, and overall board reliability. I can deliver the updated KiCad project, schematic, PCB layout, and manufacturing files. Best regards Hendra Kusdarwanto

Hi, I am a senior embedded hardware engineer with 10+ years of experience in complex Raspberry Pi CM4 carrier redesigns and mixed-signal PCB optimization, having delivered 25+ production-ready multilayer boards and multiple KiCad/Altium migrations with full interface remapping, EMI optimization, and >40 successful hardware revisions in industrial IoT systems. Approach: ✅I will start by fully auditing the existing CM4IO KiCad design to map all power domains, high-speed interfaces, and dependency chains before any modification. ✅ I will refactor the schematic by removing all listed connectors and their dependent circuitry, ensuring no orphan power, pull-up, or support components remain in the design. ✅I will redesign the interface architecture by replacing the 40-pin header and legacy ports with JST-GH/XH connectors while preserving signal integrity, pull-up logic, and power rail constraints. ✅I will validate and re-route critical interfaces (CAM/DSI/HDMI/USB/RTC/BME280 I²C) while maintaining Raspberry Pi CM4 pin compatibility and clean KiCad project structure. Questions: ✅What JST connector series should I strictly use for each interface? ✅ Should I maintain exact CM4IO reference layout or fully optimize component placement for manufacturability? ✅Are there any signals that require strict length matching or impedance control?
