I am a homeowner in Highlands Ranch Colorado. I am having a landscape company install a 200 sf patio with pavers on top of a 4" concrete slab, over 4" of road base, on clay-type soil. I need advice on the best practices for such a project: Sub-grade preparation, best sub-base material and preparation, best type of concrete mix, and pour and curing time. My property is at the bottom of a hill so I do get some drainage into my yard. The natural swale goes across my lawn and past the proposed edged of the patio. A drain pipe helps carry the water under the lawn and through the swale. The photos I have attached show the preliminary site preparation from the removal of the existing patio and railroad-tie foot bridge. The reason I need an engineering opinion is that I'm in a dispute with the contractor over the depth of the excavation, the preparation of the road base, and the concrete specifications and techniques. Thank you.
