I have a policy and procedure manual in Microsoft Word whose table of contents no longer lines up with the actual page numbers. All headings are already formatted with Word’s built-in Heading styles, so the structure is sound; I simply need the TOC rebuilt so it pulls from those styles correctly and updates itself whenever content changes. Here’s what I’m looking for: • Re-generate the table of contents using the existing Heading hierarchy. • Ensure every entry reflects the correct page number. • Activate automatic updating so future edits to the document instantly refresh the TOC. • Spot-check the document afterward to confirm links jump to the right sections.
