Title: Liberatory Struggles: Chronicles of Puerto Rico (two volumes) Word count approx. 136,000 (Volume 1) and approx. 90,000 (Volume 2) Genre: autobiography/memoir I am the Executive Director of a small nonprofit that is translating an out-of-print, two-volume autobiography of Santiago Iglesias Pantin (1872 - 1939), a famous labor organizer and politician in Puerto Rico. The books were written in Spanish. We are translating them into English. (We also plan to revise the Spanish version, which is not part of this project.) Regarding the project, the translation is already being handled by our team. We are now seeking a skilled editor to refine the translated English text using the Chicago Style Manual. This includes ensuring accuracy, improving readability, and adding footnotes about important people, places, and events mentioned in the text. Additionally, we will add an index (which we think can be generated by a software program) and three to five brief essays (5 - 10 pages each) as front material by scholars and others reflecting on the significance of the books and their republishing. We plan to self-publish the books, probably using IngramSpark. We will offer e-books and a limited print edition and/or self-print option. This project is not intended for profit but aims to make these important historical documents more widely available. Book details: In these books, he tells his personal story as well as the story of his work as a labor organizer, co-founder of the first Socialist Party in Puerto Rico, and his subsequent work as an elected official both in the Senate of Puerto Rico and as the non-voting representative of PR in the US House of Representatives. Volume I covers from 1898 to 1909. It was published first in 1929 and then again in 1958. Volume II covers from 1910 to 1917, and was published in 1962. The word count refers to Volume I only. We have an intellectual property attorney's opinion that confirms there are no copyright issues regarding our plans to republish and translate the books. Target markets: Historians, labor/union members and leaders, educators, and the general public.

My passion for research and detail-oriented approach makes me an ideal candidate for editing your two-volume autobiography. With over a decade of serving as an executive director, I bring the organizational skills necessary to harmonize the various aspects of this project such as refining translated English, ensuring accuracy, improving readability and adding contextual footnotes. Having extensively used the Chicago Style Manual in my writing career, I am familiar with its nuanced requirements - a skill that can be valuable in maintaining consistency throughout your translation. While translating is an integral part of the project, it is in the editing that those translations bloom into seamless narratives. My experience involves working with large bodies of text much akin to your series, where I have successfully added depth by incorporating relevant scholarly articles and essays. In fact, we also anticipate using software to generate an index and my experience with automation tools would be handy here. But what sets me apart is my understanding of the value what you aim to achieve with this revamped publication: making "important historical documents more widely available" This aligns perfectly well with my ethos – whether it has been my managerial role or my involvement in projects aiming at empowering others. Incorporating my skills into this project would ensure not only adherence but also commitment to the cause.
