Clear handwriting is the easy part of this, and the place accurate wording actually gets lost is Word itself, because autocorrect quietly edits you while you type: straight quotes go curly, letters after a period get capitalized, two hyphens become a long dash, and anything starting with a number turns into an auto numbered list that renumbers itself as you go. So the first thing I do is switch all of that off in Word's proofing options and then type the pages straight through, and what ends up in the .docx is what is on your paper and nothing I added. Where something is genuinely ambiguous, a surname or a 1 that could be a 7, I don't guess, I type my best reading and drop a [?] beside it with the page and line, so your accuracy check is a two minute pass and not a full reread against the source. One .docx per set, named to match the pages. The honest limit is that I can't confirm spellings of names or places that exist only in your notes, so those get flagged and left exactly as written.
