Basic description of the work:
I need mp3s transcribed. I later have the need for transcribing more mp3s and DVDs. I will use the transcriptions to create information products: articles, ebooks, or as a transcription to sell with a CD.
The recordings are of presentations, classes, radio shows, and teleseminars. There will be from 1 to 3 speakers, of which I am one. Content is generally therapeutic and about wellness, with minimal technical terms. Accent for all is a clear California American.
Transcription must be written in correct American English. The transcription is to be an edited MS Word document that removes “Umms”, “ahhs” and other words to generate a finalized document that is correct in grammar, punctuation and spelling. Accuracy is essential. Grammar can be flexible when the content is friendly and folksy. If there is a partial phrase and it’s clear to merge it with the next words, then you would do so. If it is not clear what to do, then you would highlight the text for me.
My deadlines are soft, so you can fit them around your other work. For ongoing work, I expect from one to 10 hours a month.
a) transcribe accurately and efficiently
b) proofread your work (not just relying on spellcheck)
c) edit for clarity when necessary
d) English is your native language (I have a preference for providers from US and Canada, but may consider others based on results).
e) have an excellent command of American English spelling, grammar and punctuation
f) have previous transcription experience
g) be able to follow specific directions
h) keep communication open
i) will understand that if work is shoddy or unsatisfactory, it will be returned to you for corrections to be made before any payments can be made
j) can adhere to deadlines, if there are any
k) can type at least 65 wpm (if you must quote by your time)
1) A quote for 30 minutes of mp3 recording (plus accuracy rate)
2) (If you must quote by your time, then quote your rate, typing speed and accuracy rate)
3) Number of years experience with transcribing
4) Policy if I am not satisfied with the transcription
5) A small sample of your transcription work, preferably with similar type of recording
