My goal is to receive a comprehensive dual-diligence report that lets me make a confident investment decision in Brazilian hydropower assets within the next month. The analysis must drill into two core themes—technical performance and financial viability—so I have a clear picture of both how reliably each plant can generate power and how solid the projected returns truly are. SCOPE OF WORK Brazil Hydropower Project – Independent Technical Advisory Support 1. Purpose of Engagement We are seeking an experienced hydropower technical specialist to provide independent technical advisory support for the assessment of an operating hydropower asset in Brazil. The engagement will focus on reviewing the asset’s historical operating performance, hydrological and generation conditions, CAPEX/OPEX and O&M capability, and a proposed capacity expansion. The consultant will work directly with the project team on a confidential, project-based basis. 2. Scope of Work The consultant will provide technical support in the following areas: A. Hydrology & Generation Performance Review available historical hydrological and generation information, including: * Rainfall, river runoff and relevant hydrological conditions; * Wet-season and dry-season generation characteristics; * Historical electricity generation and load profile; * Plant availability, utilization hours and reliability; * Turbine and generator efficiency/performance; * Historical outages, generation losses and curtailment; and * Forward-looking generation assumptions. Where sufficient information is available, support the assessment of P50/P75/P90 generation scenarios. B. Operational & Technical Data Review Review relevant plant operating information and identify material inconsistencies, abnormal trends or technical risks. The review may cover: * Generation and metering records; * Availability and outage data; * Generation losses and curtailment; * GSF-related technical assumptions; * Turbine/generator operating performance; and * Technical assumptions affecting sellable electricity. Quantitative outputs should preferably be structured in monthly or annual format suitable for incorporation into the project team’s financial analysis. C. CAPEX, OPEX & O&M Assessment Provide a high-level engineering assessment of: * Historical and projected CAPEX; * Historical and projected OPEX; * Major maintenance requirements; * Equipment condition and replacement requirements; * Spare-parts availability and strategy; and * Overall plant O&M capability. Identify potential technical issues that could materially affect future expenditure, plant availability or generation. D. Capacity Expansion Assessment Review the proposed expansion of the hydropower facility from a technical perspective, including: * Proposed technical solution; * Major equipment; * Engineering and construction approach; * Grid connection; * Environmental/permitting considerations from a technical perspective; * Construction schedule; * CAPEX/OPEX implications; and * Expected impact on plant capacity and generation. Highlight material risks associated with schedule delay, cost overruns, construction interfaces or performance shortfalls. E. Technical Support for Commercial Assessment Provide technical input, where required, regarding: * Generation assumptions supporting contractual electricity volumes; * Technical ability to meet generation obligations; * Plant availability and operational constraints; * Technical assumptions affecting ACL electricity availability; and * Potential commercial PPA arrangements from a generation/technical perspective. Legal, tax, accounting and formal regulatory opinions are excluded from this engagement. 3. Deliverables The primary deliverables are expected to include: 1. Initial document/data review and information-gap comments; 2. Technical review notes on hydrology, generation and plant performance; 3. CAPEX/OPEX and O&M assessment; 4. Capacity expansion technical assessment; 5. Key technical risk register; 6. Recommended follow-up questions/issues for further clarification; 7. Supporting calculations and assumptions in editable Excel format, where applicable; and 8. Final concise technical advisory memorandum summarizing key findings and recommendations. The engagement is intended to support the project team’s assessment rather than produce a full independent engineer’s report. 4. Indicative Schedule The assignment is expected to be completed within approximately 3–4 weeks from commencement, subject to availability and completeness of project information. Indicative milestones: Week 1: Document review, data-gap identification and initial technical assessment. Week 2: Hydrology/generation analysis and CAPEX/OPEX/O&M review. Week 3: Capacity expansion assessment, risk identification and preparation of draft findings. Week 4: Review meeting, comments resolution and final technical memorandum. Priority findings should be communicated to the project team as soon as they are identified rather than waiting for the final report.

For an investment decision of this size, I would structure the work so every technical assumption that affects generation ultimately flows into the financial case rather than treating technical and financial diligence as separate reports. My background is Chemical Engineering, Excel-based financial modeling and quantitative analysis. I’m currently working on a multi-year investment model covering operating drivers, financing structures, scenarios and executive-level outputs. I would begin with a data-room review and gap register, then build monthly historical views of hydrology, generation, availability, outages and losses. From there, the analysis would test generation assumptions and P50/P75/P90 scenarios where the available data supports them. CAPEX, OPEX, maintenance requirements and the proposed expansion would then feed directly into scenario and sensitivity analysis. I would also build an editable Excel diligence model linking generation, availability, expansion CAPEX, OPEX and downside cases to the investment economics, alongside a risk register and concise decision-focused memorandum. The proposed 3–4 week schedule is workable, with material findings escalated as they emerge rather than held until the final report. Adnan

I have 13+ years of experience in mechanical/engineering analysis and technical project work, including complex performance assessment, technical documentation, calculations and engineering risk evaluation. I can support this hydropower due-diligence assignment across the full technical scope, including: • Hydrology and historical generation analysis • P50/P75/P90 generation scenario assessment • Plant availability, utilization, outages and curtailment analysis • Turbine/generator performance and efficiency review • CAPEX/OPEX and major maintenance assessment • O&M capability, equipment condition and spare-parts risks • Proposed capacity expansion and technical feasibility • Grid connection, construction interfaces and schedule risks • Technical assumptions affecting sellable electricity and PPA obligations • Technical risk register with priority actions • Supporting Excel calculations and assumptions • Final concise technical advisory memorandum My approach would be data-driven: first establish the available evidence and information gaps, then independently reconcile generation, hydrology, availability and operating assumptions before assessing the expansion case and financial-impacting technical risks. I am comfortable working to your proposed 3–4 week schedule, with Week 1 focused on document/data review, Week 2 on generation and O&M analysis, Week 3 on expansion and risk assessment, and Week 4 on finalization.

You need a dual-diligence report on Brazilian hydropower assets for an investment decision next month, focusing on technical performance and financial viability. I will start by reviewing the historical operating data and hydrological conditions. I will build the technical analysis using Python with pandas and numpy libraries to process the generation data, looking for anomalies in output against rainfall and historical trends, and I will also use a Monte Carlo simulation approach to model future generation variability based on those trends, not just a simple average, so you see the range of possible outcomes. For financial viability, I will build a dynamic financial model in Python using numpy to project revenue based on the generated power and current market rates, also incorporating debt service schedules and operational expenses. I will also model the impact of potential regulatory changes I find in the brief's provided documentation, so the financial projections reflect a realistic downside case. Instead of a static report, I will deliver an interactive dashboard using Streamlit. This dashboard will allow you to adjust key input variables like electricity prices or rainfall deviations and see the immediate impact on projected returns, making the investment decision process more dynamic. Preferred Freelancer here, 5.0 over 10 reviews, no missed deadline and nothing over an agreed price yet. This experience with complex data integration and financial modeling directly applies to your need for a clear picture of how reliably each plant can generate power and how solid the projected returns truly are. What is the current source of truth for the projected returns you mentioned, so I know where to start my validation? I need access to the historical operating data and hydrological reports.

Hello, The primary technical risk is optimistic forward-looking generation assumptions driven by short hydrological records and unvalidated head and flow loss assumptions, which can materially bias energy forecasts and PPA structuring. I have direct experience assessing operating hydropower assets where I reconciled historical hydrology against observed generation, identified hidden driven losses (sediment abrasion, cavitation, gate leakage, governor tuning), and recalibrated production models. I have reviewed CAPEX/OPEX, O&M regimes, and expansion proposals, producing technical memoranda and risk registers used by investors and lenders. My background includes plant performance trend analysis, SCADA event review for forced outage attribution, and evaluation of proposed turbine/generator upgrades. I will begin by requesting the complete data package (daily/weekly inflows, reservoir levels, gate and turbine operational logs, maintenance records, CAPEX/OPEX ledgers, and design drawings). I will calibrate a production model against historical generation using flow-duration and frequency analysis, quantify hydraulic head and penstock losses, reconcile generation versus declared availability, and produce a focused risk register highlighting assumptions that drive value and PPA exposure. Deliverables will include technical review notes, generation performance assessment, CAPEX/OPEX commentary with contingency and schedule risk flags, a capacity expansion technical assessment with feasibility and risk items, and a final advisory memorandum suitable for commercial due diligence. Timeline is 3-4 weeks from receipt of the full data package; critical path is timely access to SCADA and maintenance logs. - Do you have daily inflow time series and full SCADA event logs covering at least five years available for transfer? - Is the proposed capacity expansion based on uprating existing units or adding new units, and are preliminary engineering drawings or vendor studies already prepared? Happy to hop on a brief call whenever it suits you. Matthew Reese
