Primary goal is to produce a broad survey of recent technology products including web, mobile, hardware and services.
There will be 2 main deliveries (stages):
Delivery 1. List of top 30 technology product news/review websites with short description of the process to find and filter products:
Example 1: [url removed, login to view] . A primarily online startup announcement site, product can be found via search field or browsed by days. Clicking the product title will lead to original product side, clicking on the product row would open up the comments section, popularity of product is indicated by the up vote count (to the left of the title).
Example 2: [url removed, login to view] . A tech news site, news are categorised into Startups, Mobile, Gadgets...(drop down option on home page "News"). Product news can be view by latest or popularity tab. Products or keywords are linked within each article. Facebook comments count suggests the popularity of the article.

This list would then forms the source of research activities. The list should have strong focus on web/mobile products but at minimum of 5 for hardware (PC, Auto, Space…) sites. In the description of each chosen websites, you should explain your selection criteria, i.e why did you choose this site (website ranking, Google search index…).
Delivery 2. List of top 500 technology products gathered from the 30 websites:
Each product would need:
Source: which website (out of the 30 above) you have found it.
Link: The homepage/landing page URL of the product.
Short description: 160 characters or less description of the product. Preferably is the product’s slogan or company’s summary/marketing message.
Long description: 500 characters or less description of the product. Expected to be cut & copy from product’s site.
Popularity assessment: This is where you need to be creative, the indication of product popularity could be the number of users that product page reports, the number of Facebook likes, Google keyword search ranking comparison…. Overall, the whole list should have at most 10 ways to access popularity.
The list should have 400 on software (web/mobile app/service) and 100 on hardware (mobile phones, GPS tracker, tablets).
The list should only cover products that is available to be purchased/used or have a release date from 2012 onward.
Both list would be delivered in MS Excel format. Quantitative data such as popularity assessment should be in numeric format for sorting/charting purpose.
This initial survey will be used as market and feasibility research for a new commercial products. Further data entry and development work will be awarded upon demonstration of thorough research in both breadth and depth of this topic.
