Multi-Region Database Replication & Failover Engine Category: Backend Development / Site Reliability Budget: £1,050 GBP — Fixed Price, 3 Milestones Project deadline: Monday, 12 October 2026 Description: Our production database needs a multi-region replication setup with automatic failover so read/write availability survives a regional outage. We need an engineer to configure replication between regions, build health-check-driven failover logic, and verify data consistency after a failover event. Backend-only engagement, no design or front-end work required. Key requirements: • Strong experience with database replication (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or equivalent) • Experience building health-check and automatic-failover logic • Comfortable with consistency/conflict-resolution tradeoffs in distributed data • Able to work reactively within a short, defined window Deliverables: • Working multi-region replication setup with automatic failover • Health-check and failover-trigger logic • Before/after failover test results confirming data consistency Payment Structure — £1,050 GBP Fixed, 3 Milestones Milestone 1 – Advance Payment: £420 • Paid upon project commencement and award of contract • Funds initial development and setup of the agreed scope • This payment does not constitute delivery, acceptance, or completion of any part of the work, and does not waive any requirement of this posting Milestone 2 – Advance Payment: £420 • Paid upon the Freelancer demonstrating development progress against the agreed scope, at the Client's sole discretion • Same conditions as Milestone 1 apply: this payment does not constitute delivery, acceptance, or completion, and does not limit the Client's rights in the event of non-delivery or breach Milestone 3 – Final Payment: £210 • Payable only upon full delivery of all items listed under Deliverables above, functioning as specified, together with transfer of all source code, documentation, and access relevant to the work • Failure to meet these conditions voids entitlement to the Final Payment Money-Back Guarantee & Acceptance Terms: 1. Freelancer's acceptance of these terms. By commencing any work under this project — including, without limitation, accepting the award, confirming a start date, or performing any preparatory or substantive task — the Freelancer is deemed to have read, understood, and irrevocably accepted all terms of this posting in full, including this Money-Back Guarantee & Acceptance Terms clause. Commencement of work by the Freelancer constitutes their binding acceptance of the contract; it is not conditional on any further signature or confirmation. 2. Milestone release ≠ Client's acceptance of the work. Release of any milestone payment by the Client authorises the Freelancer to commence or continue work only. It does not constitute the Client's acceptance of that work or of the final deliverable. The Client's acceptance of the deliverable occurs solely upon the Client's written confirmation that it conforms to the specification set out in this posting. 3. Time is of the essence. The Project Deadline stated above (12 October 2026) is a material term of this engagement. 4. Money-back guarantee. If the completed deliverable(s) are not delivered in full working order by the Project Deadline, and the Client has not granted an express written extension prior to that deadline, this contract shall automatically and immediately terminate (become void) without further notice, and the Freelancer shall refund the Client all sums paid under this contract in full within 5 business days of the deadline lapsing. 5. Extensions. Any extension to the Project Deadline is valid only if agreed in writing by the Client before the original deadline expires. No extension is implied by silence, delay in response, or continued work after the deadline has passed. 6. No waiver. The Client's acceptance of late or partial work, at its sole discretion, does not waive the Client's rights under this clause in respect of any other milestone or deliverable. 7. Survival. This clause survives termination of the contract. 8. Strict no partial acceptance. There is no partial acceptance of work and no payment beyond the Milestones expressly set out above for incomplete or partially functional deliverables. "Substantial completion" or "near completion" does not qualify. Completion of individual components does not entitle the Freelancer to proportional payment. Testing, feedback, or engagement from the Client does not itself constitute acceptance. Acceptance occurs only upon full completion of the Deliverables as set out in this posting. 9. Refund rights (material breach). Failure to deliver a complete, working system as specified in this posting constitutes material breach. This includes missed delivery obligations, a non-functional deliverable, or failure to meet the specification set out above. The Client reserves the right to terminate this contract and pursue recovery of payments made, subject to applicable law. 10. Suspension rights. The Freelancer may suspend work if payment of a due Milestone is overdue by more than 30 days, the Client commits a material breach of this agreement, or the Freelancer reasonably believes continuing would expose their work product to unauthorised use or a security risk. 11. Limitation of liability. Liability under this contract is limited to the total fixed price of £1,050. Nothing in this clause excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. 12. Confidentiality. Both parties agree to keep confidential any system architecture, code, credentials, and data shared in connection with this project. This obligation survives termination of the contract. 13. Intellectual property. Upon receipt of the Final Payment (Milestone 3), all deliverables — including source code and documentation produced specifically for this project — become the property of the Client. The Freelancer retains ownership of any pre-existing tools, frameworks, or generic components used to deliver the work. 14. Force majeure. Neither party is liable for delays caused by events beyond their reasonable control, including natural disasters, war, infrastructure failures, or pandemics. 15. Communication requirement. All communication, updates, approvals, and documentation relating to this project must occur in writing. Communication outside of this does not amend this agreement. 16. Governing law. This agreement is governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

Hi, I reviewed the project and understand the main requirement: a multi-region PostgreSQL replication setup with automatic failover that maintains read/write availability during a regional outage. I’ll configure the Database Development architecture, implement health-check-driven failover logic, and address Conflict Resolution and consistency tradeoffs across regions. I’ll validate PostgreSQL replication through controlled failover testing, document before-and-after results, and confirm data consistency and recovery behavior against the agreed deliverables. I’ll provide clean backend work, responsive written updates, and clear documentation for easy management. Let’s discuss here now.

First thing I'd lock down is the replication topology, since it shapes everything downstream. Postgres means Patroni on etcd or Consul for consensus, so leader election isn't a single point of failure. MySQL means Group Replication with Orchestrator handling topology. Either way, the real risk cross-region is lag turning into split-brain the moment a health check fires early, so the probe needs to check lag and quorum, not just a ping. The probe polls replica lag and connection state on an interval, with a delay before promotion so a brief blip doesn't trigger a false failover. Promotion is scripted end to end: proxy or DNS updated (pgbouncer/ProxySQL or a load balancer VIP), old primary demoted and rejoined once back. For the consistency proof, I'd run a scripted workload against the primary, kill it mid-write, let the probe promote a replica, then diff row counts and checksums before and after against a baseline. That's the deliverable you actually asked for, and it's the part most builds skip until something breaks in production. M1: topology setup, base streaming replication across regions. 320 GBP, 4 days. M2: health-check probe and automatic failover logic. 380 GBP, 6 days. M3: consistency test harness, before/after diff under simulated outage. 380 GBP, 7 days. M4: tuning, runbook, handover. 195 GBP, 4 days. Postgres or MySQL, same cloud provider or split across two? Do writes need to keep working through failover, or is a short gap fine while promotion completes?

Hi, I've built and deployed production backends on AWS with Postgres and MySQL, including replicated setups and CI/CD driven deployments over 15 years of full-stack work. On the failover logic, the sharp decision is your write strategy after a regional loss. A single-primary setup with automatic promotion keeps consistency simple but risks split-brain if the health check misjudges a network partition. So my first question: is your database Postgres or MySQL, and are you open to a quorum based health check rather than a single probe to avoid false failovers? We've run distributed backends on AWS with RDS and multi-region setups end to end, including a two year event platform handling backend and mobile for a major finance summit in the MENA region. Since history is light between us, I'd start with milestone one so you only release on demonstrated replication. Tell me the database and current region setup and I'll map the consistency test plan. Hi, I'm Denis, a full-stack developer specializing in distributed systems and database infrastructure. I've built multi-region setups where data consistency and failover reliability were critical. I understand your need: a production database that survives regional outages without manual intervention. This requires replication across regions, automated health checks to detect failures, and triggered failover when a region goes down. The key challenge is verifying data consistency after switching, especially if writes occurred before failure. I've handled similar work with PostgreSQL replication, designing failover logic that monitors connection health and database lag, and testing consistency under failure scenarios. The critical decision upfront is choosing the right replication strategy—synchronous or asynchronous replication depends on your consistency requirements versus latency tolerance. My approach: review your current setup, design the replication topology for your regions and traffic patterns, implement health-check and failover logic, then run comprehensive tests simulating regional failures to confirm data integrity. One realistic challenge is handling write conflicts if your setup allows multi-region writes before failover completes. We should clarify your consistency model early—whether you accept eventual consistency or need stricter guarantees. This shapes the entire implementation. I'm ready to start immediately and can discuss details at your convenienc

Hello, I have experience designing and implementing high-availability database systems with replication, automated failover, and disaster recovery strategies. I can help configure a reliable multi-region database architecture that maintains availability during regional failures while balancing consistency, latency, and operational simplicity. My approach would include setting up database replication using PostgreSQL, MySQL, or the existing database technology, implementing health checks, and creating automated failover logic based on database availability, replication status, and service health. I will carefully evaluate replication mode, conflict handling, and recovery procedures to avoid data loss or inconsistency. I will provide a complete working replication and failover setup, including configuration files, monitoring checks, and documented recovery procedures. Before delivery, I will perform controlled failover tests, verify read/write availability, and compare data consistency before and after the failover event. I understand the short delivery window and milestone structure. I can start immediately, provide clear written progress updates, and deliver a tested solution with documentation covering setup, operation, and future maintenance.

Hello, The decision that defines this whole build is RPO and RTO: how much data you can lose and how much downtime you can accept. It matters because cross-region replication is normally async, since sync across regions adds latency to every write. Async means the replica lags, so an automatic failover after a regional outage can lose the last few seconds of writes that had not replicated. So "verify data consistency after failover" is not a final test, it is decided by the replication mode. Zero data loss across regions is not free, and sometimes not physically possible, so we set the target RPO first. The harder risk is split-brain. The scary case is not the outage, it is a false positive: a network partition makes the health check think the primary is dead, it promotes the replica, but the old primary is still alive taking writes, and now two primaries diverge and corrupt data. So real auto-failover needs fencing or quorum, so only one primary can ever exist and the old node is blocked before promotion. A naive "health check fails, promote replica" script is how production gets corrupted. The test then has to prove the nasty paths: fail over within RTO, confirm no committed transactions lost beyond RPO, bring the old primary back, and confirm no split-brain. One question: what RPO and RTO can you accept? That decides sync versus async, whether zero loss is possible, and the exact pass criteria for the acceptance test.

Hi, your project is clearly about keeping database reads and writes available through a regional outage, with failover that is fast, controlled, and testable. I’ve built and supported replication and failover setups for production databases, including PostgreSQL and MySQL environments. My focus would be on safe replication between regions, health checks that reflect real service state, and failover logic that avoids split-brain or data loss. I’d start by mapping the current topology, recovery goals, and consistency expectations. Then I’d implement the replication and failover path, add validation around promotion and rejoin steps, and run before/after failover tests to confirm consistency. You’ll get clear documentation and a setup that’s practical to operate under pressure. If you’d like, I can help you turn this into a reliable multi-region recovery path. Best regards, Gabriel

Hi, I’ll build a multi-region replication and automatic failover setup for your production database, including health-check-driven promotion logic, consistency validation after failover, and clear runbook documentation. The main technical risk is avoiding split-brain and write divergence during regional loss, so I’ll design the promotion flow with strict leader election and verification checks. I recently implemented PostgreSQL replication monitoring and failover automation for a backend service, where I validated replica lag, failover behavior, and post-switch data integrity. For your project, I’d begin by reviewing the current topology and database engine, then implement replication, trigger logic, and controlled failover tests with before/after consistency results. Which database platform and cloud environment are you using today? Best regards, NexLoom

The critical part of this project is preventing split-brain while still achieving fast automatic failover. I would first define the required RPO/RTO and review the existing database engine, topology and hosting environment. Where possible I would use the database/cloud provider’s native replication and failover capabilities; for a self-managed deployment I would add explicit health checks, quorum/fencing and controlled promotion logic rather than relying on a simple “primary unreachable = promote replica” rule. The implementation would include replication monitoring, failover triggers, connection routing, replica promotion/rejoin handling, and repeatable consistency checks before and after a simulated regional outage. I would also document the failover/failback procedure and provide test evidence covering replication state, recovery time and data consistency. I can start immediately once the RPO/RTO, infrastructure and milestone acceptance criteria are defined objectively.

I've built multi-region PostgreSQL/MySQL replication setups with automatic failover before, so this is right in my wheelhouse. I'll configure streaming replication between regions, implement health checks using pg_isready or SHOW SLAVE STATUS, and set up a failover script that promotes the standby and updates DNS/app config. For validation, I'll simulate a region outage and verify data consistency with checksums or logical replication lag checks. I can start immediately. Thanks, Andrii.

Hi, I can design and implement a production-ready multi-region database replication and automatic failover solution with clear validation of consistency before and after failover. For PostgreSQL, my preferred approach is streaming replication with Patroni + etcd/Consul, HAProxy/PgBouncer, health checks, replication-lag thresholds, and fencing to prevent split-brain. I can adapt the design if your current stack is MySQL or cloud-managed. I can deliver: • Multi-region replication setup • Automated health checks and failover triggers • Primary/replica promotion logic • Split-brain prevention • Replication-lag monitoring • RPO/RTO definition and validation • Connection routing after failover • Controlled failback procedure • Data consistency/checksum verification • Before/after failover test results • Monitoring and logging • Deployment/configuration scripts • Runbook and technical documentation I’ll first review the current database topology, traffic pattern, regions, latency, write volume, and recovery objectives, then implement and test the design in a controlled environment before production rollout. I can work within the stated £1,050 fixed budget and milestone structure and deliver before 12 October 2026, assuming required infrastructure/access is provided on schedule. Best regards Ankit
