I need a Microsoft Access database built from the ground up to manage multilayer Bills of Materials exported from SolidWorks. The single most critical feature is a master parts table that enforces truly unique part IDs—no duplicates can slip through. Around that core, I also want: • A BOM table that captures all parent-child relationships between assemblies and parts. • An operation table covering every manufacturing step (laser, punch, fold, weld, etc.). • A routing table that ties each part to its sequence of operations. • A revision table so every change is tracked and auditable. The relationships among these tables must be fully defined and referential integrity enforced. On the user side I’m looking for: • A clean part-entry form. • A BOM-entry form that supports simplified CSV imports from SolidWorks exports. • A query (or set of queries) that can instantly explode any selected sub-assembly into its complete, multi-level BOM. • An automatic serial-number generator for new parts. The finished database should let me allocate any part to its relevant operations and give me confidence that IDs, revisions, and routings are always accurate. Delivery deadline is within a month, and I’ll need the unlocked .accdb file plus a brief walk-through document so my team can maintain it. Please include examples of past work on Access databases—especially anything dealing with manufacturing, BOMs, or complex relational setups—so I can gauge fit quickly.

Hi, I will build your Access BOM database — master parts table with enforced unique IDs, parent-child BOM relationships, operations, routings, and revision tracking — all with full referential integrity. I will also deliver the part-entry form, BOM-entry form with CSV import from SolidWorks, multi-level BOM explosion queries, and an auto serial-number generator. For the BOM explosion query, I will use a recursive approach via a VBA function that walks the parent-child tree to any depth — this handles nested sub-assemblies reliably where standard Access queries fall short. Questions: 1) What format do your SolidWorks CSV exports follow — do they include indentation levels or parent-child columns? 2) Does your serial-number scheme follow a specific pattern (e.g., prefix by part type)? Looking forward to potentially working together. Thanks, Kamran

Hello! I understand you need a robust Microsoft Access database to manage your multi-layer Bills of Materials (BOMs) from SolidWorks. With my expertise in relational databases, manufacturing processes, and MS Access design, I'm confident I can create a tailored solution that meets your exact requirements. My approach involves: - Ensuring unique part IDs with strict enforcement against duplicates using referential integrity. - Capturing parent-child relationships between assemblies and parts, including a clear hierarchy for multi-level BOMs. - Detailing all manufacturing steps (as they were stored) with time estimations for each step (based on the lookup tables). - Linking each part to its sequence of operations within the manufacturing process. You'll also get a user-friendly interface: - For easy input and management of parts. - Supported by simplified CSV imports from SolidWorks exports for streamlined updates. - Powerful queries to instantly explode any selected sub-assembly into its complete, multi-level BOM. - Generating unique serial numbers for each new part upon entry. I'll deliver the database file (.accdb) and a detailed walkthrough document so your team can use it seamlessly. To ensure I completely understand your needs before starting work, I would appreciate having access to examples of the csv exported from soliworks and a brief explanation of the multi-level relation. Happy to discuss further!

A solid BOM system lives or dies on data integrity—and that’s exactly where I focus. I’ve built similar Access/Excel solutions where unique IDs, multi-level assemblies, and revision tracking had to be strictly controlled with zero duplication. I understand how to structure this from the ground up so relationships, routing, and traceability all work seamlessly. I’ll deliver a clean, fully normalized database with enforced integrity, fast BOM explosion queries, routing links, and simple forms for part entry and SolidWorks CSV imports. You’ll also get a clear, maintainable .accdb file with documentation for your team. I can take full ownership and deliver this reliably within your timeline.

Hi, I can build this multilayer BOM database in Access and deliver the unlocked .accdb file within 3 weeks. Your master parts table will enforce unique IDs through composite primary keys and validation rules—zero duplicates, guaranteed. I’ll set up all five tables with defined relationships and referential integrity, plus cascade updates so nothing breaks when data changes. The BOM-entry form will include a CSV import button that maps SolidWorks export fields directly. Your multi-level explosion query will use recursive logic to drill down through assemblies instantly. Let me know if the timeline suits you, and I’ll start on the schema design right away. Regards.

Hello, I’ll build a robust Microsoft Access solution from the ground up to manage multilayer Bills of Materials exported from SolidWorks. The design centers on a truly unique master parts table with enforced primary keys and a full set of related tables (BOM, operations, routing, revisions) with strict referential integrity. You’ll get a clean part-entry form, a BOM-entry form with built-in CSV import for SolidWorks, and an explosible multi-level BOM query set that can expand any sub-assembly to its complete hierarchy. I’ll implement an automatic serial-number generator for new parts and tie each part to its operations and routing, so revisions, IDs, and routings stay auditable and accurate. Deliverables include the unlocked .accdb, a concise walk-through document, data dictionary, and ERD. I’ve delivered similar Access databases for manufacturing environments with complex relational models and BOMs, including CSV import workflows and multi-level BOM explosions. Best regards,

Hello, One key insight for your project is the need for rigorous enforcement of unique part IDs within the master parts table, as this is crucial for maintaining data integrity across the entire BOM structure. This will prevent any duplicates from affecting your operations and ensure that all relationships between assemblies and parts are accurately maintained, which is vital for efficient manufacturing and auditing processes. Your project requires a comprehensive understanding of Microsoft Access and its relational database capabilities. My experience in building similar databases allows me to create a robust solution tailored to your specifications, particularly focusing on the master parts table and its integrations with the BOM, operation, routing, and revision tables. In previous work, I developed a relational database for a manufacturing client that managed complex BOMs, ensuring all parts were uniquely identified and revisions tracked effectively. This involved creating user-friendly forms for data entry and implementing automated processes for serial number generation. My approach led to a significant reduction in data entry errors and improved traceability of parts throughout the production process. To successfully execute this project, I would follow these steps: start with a detailed requirements gathering phase to confirm all specifications, then design the database schema to ensure referential integrity among tables. I would build the necessary forms for data entry and establish queries for generating BOM reports. Finally, I would conduct thorough testing to ensure everything functions correctly before delivering the .accdb file along with a maintenance guide. Could you clarify how you envision the user interface for the entry forms? What specific functionalities do you want in the queries for exploding sub-assemblies? Regards, Shaun
