Plain INSERTs into the existing columns, no ALTER, no reseeding AUTO_INCREMENT, and a mysqldump of the table before the first row goes in so there's a rollback point. Plan: pull the CSV, run it through a small PHP/PDO cleaner that trims whitespace, normalises phone and postal formats, validates emails, and catches near-duplicates (same email, or name + phone). Anything doubtful goes to a review sheet, not into the table. Then batched INSERTs inside a transaction, COUNT(*) before and after so the row count lines up with the source, and the correction log you asked for. Similar ground: I built a scraper that read a page every 30 minutes and wrote the parsed rows to MySQL over PDO, and a log parser feeding five Linux systems into one MariaDB, buffering when the DB was unreachable. Different source, same fussiness about clean rows. One question — for a row that's suspect but not clearly broken, say a phone with the wrong digit count, do you want it held back for you to check, or inserted as supplied and just noted in the log?
