I have a cherished photograph of a good friend of mine (a retired four-star Air Force general) with his father and his son (an Air Force fighter pilot)—three generations of American servicemen—taken in the back of a truck. It turned out to be the last picture of the general, along with his father and his son., taken together. The general's father passed away less than a year ago at the age of 92. The general'sson was laid to rest in Arlington after losing his fight with an inoperable brain tumor. I’d like this moment brought to life as a realistic, painting. Watercolor is the approach I initially imagined, yet I’m open to whatever medium you feel best captures our story. What matters most is an honest rendering of the facial expressions and the quiet emotion between the three men. The truck bed and background of the photo can remain true to the photo, but the heart of the piece should be the bond on their faces. If this speaks to you, please share examples of past work that demonstrate your ability to convey subtle emotion in a realistic style. A brief note on how you would translate the photograph into a compelling composition will help me understand your vision.
