I’ve actually been looking for opportunities to keep the teacher in me alive as I transition into a more corporate role after four years in education, and this sounds perfect. I spent two years as a Teach For India fellow, building lessons for students who often didn’t have a strong foundational background in English, so I’m used to understanding where a student is starting from and building lessons around what they specifically need. With advanced learners, I’d focus less on “learning English” and more on making their English sharper, more precise and confident. I’d use demanding, authentic texts and have speaking, reading and writing feed into each other. For instance, a discussion around an essay could lead into a short writing exercise, followed by individual feedback and revision. Reading sessions could also work on comprehension, structure, vocabulary and identifying how an argument is built. I’m comfortable using Google Docs for live/annotated feedback and Zoom or Google Meet for classes, as well as tools like Mentimeter, Padlet, Canva and Quizlet to make sessions more interactive.
