Design a data over power circuit

I need a circuit that will allow serial data transfer over a low voltage power circuit.
The solution must provide both power and data transfer over 2 wires.
Voltage transfer is DC and can be anywhere from 3V to 12V with a nominal current of 300mA. Current flows from one side of the link to the other only.
Data transfer is bi-directional based on UART style communications and half-duplex operation. Transfer speed of 1 Mbps or more required.
Very short distances - only a few CM of connection length.
Need a very low component solution ideally based on a Microchip MCU.
