I’m looking for an experienced automotive/power-electronics engineer to design a compact and reliable power interface between a motorcycle electrical system and an outdoor LED display. Electrical requirements Input: standard 12 V motorcycle electrical system, with normal voltage variations and automotive transients. LED input: 12 V DC nominal. LED acceptable input range: 10–12 V DC. LED current: 1.4 A nominal, 4.8 A maximum. Required output: stable and protected 12 V DC. The design must address Voltage regulation. Reverse-polarity protection. Automotive voltage spikes/transients and load dump. Undervoltage and overvoltage protection. Short-circuit and overcurrent protection. Thermal protection/management. Correct fuse and cable sizing. Outdoor motorcycle environment, including vibration, water and dust. I prefer the simplest reliable solution possible, using commercially available automotive components or modules where appropriate. A custom PCB should only be used if it provides a clear technical or manufacturing advantage. The electronics will be installed in a compact IP65/IP67 enclosure and connected to the LED through a waterproof M19 2-pin connector. Deliverables Complete electrical design and wiring diagram/schematic. Selection and sizing of all components. BOM with exact manufacturer part numbers and suppliers. Fuse and cable specifications. PCB design/manufacturing files if a PCB is required. Thermal and enclosure requirements. Assembly instructions. Prototype test and validation procedure. Recommendation of a supplier/manufacturer capable of producing the finished unit. The design must be ready to manufacture, not only a conceptual design. Experience with automotive power electronics, ISO 7637-2 / ISO 16750-2 transient protection, DC-DC converters and motorcycle/vehicle electrical systems is strongly preferred.

Hi there, I carefully reviewed your motorcycle-to-LED power interface requirements, including the 10–12 V acceptable LED input range, 1.4 A nominal / 4.8 A maximum current, automotive transients, reverse polarity, undervoltage/overvoltage protection, short-circuit protection, thermal management, and the IP65/IP67 installation environment. I am a mechatronics engineer with almost half a decade of experience in electronics design, SMPS and LDO power supplies, embedded hardware, PCB design, prototyping, and component-level engineering using Altium Designer. This background is directly relevant to evaluating whether a robust automotive-rated off-the-shelf power module is sufficient or whether a custom PCB provides a real technical advantage. I can develop the complete electrical design, component sizing, protection architecture, fuse and cable specifications, BOM, wiring documentation, manufacturing files if required, and a practical prototype validation procedure. Because power electronics and PCB design are already part of my skillset, I can approach the project efficiently while keeping the solution as simple and manufacturable as possible. Please send me a message so we can discuss the project and start. Best regards, Samuel tshibangu

Hi, I am ready to design a compact and reliable power interface between your motorcycle electrical system and outdoor LED display, covering voltage regulation, reverse-polarity protection, automotive transient and load dump protection, protection circuits, thermal management, and fuse/cable sizing, following ISO 7637-2, ISO 16750-2, and automotive power electronics standards for a manufacturable, weatherproof, and motorcycle-ready design. Project Deliverables: Electrical schematic Component selection and sizing BOM Fuse and cable specifications PCB layout Gerber and drill files Thermal and enclosure requirements Assembly instructions Prototype test and validation procedure I have a few questions: Q1: Could you share the specific motorcycle model and the exact LED display model or brand? Q2: Do you have any preference for component suppliers or the level of detail for the assembly instructions? Over 8 years of experience in automotive power electronics and LED supply design. Similar projects I have done: Motorcycle 12V LED Supply Design with ISO 7637-2 Transient Protection and Manufacturable BOM Automotive Power Interface Design with Reverse-Polarity Protection and Thermal Management for LED Displays Software I can use: Altium Designer/KiCad I am ready to start immediately. The motorcycle electrical system transients are the main constraint here. I would build this with a switching regulator for efficiency, likely an LT8330 or similar, directly feeding an N-channel MOSFET with a sense resistor for current monitoring, also using that for overcurrent and short-circuit protection, so the MOSFET is controlled by an op-amp comparing the sense voltage to a reference. Reverse polarity protection comes from a P-channel MOSFET on the input, so it only conducts when positive, and undervoltage/overvoltage protection would use a comparator watching the input voltage and an output voltage comparator to shut down the switching regulator through its enable pin if either goes out of bounds, so it's safe for the LED display. Load dump protection means adding a transient voltage suppressor like a TVS diode on the input, sized for automotive transients, so it clamps spikes before they reach the regulator. Thermal management is passive, relying on component selection and PCB copper area to keep things cool under the 4.8A max load. For fusing and cable sizing, I'd use a fast-acting automotive fuse, probably 7.5A, and appropriately gauged wire for the current and length. I would build the input reverse polarity and surge protection first, so that component is in place before powering up the main switching regulator section, which is the most complex part. Does the LED display have any specific requirements for turn-on delay or ramp-up? 10 reviews on Freelancer at 5.0, everything delivered on time and on the agreed price so far. A short call on Freelancer would be good to cover the specific transient voltage specs you're most concerned about and confirm the enclosure mounting details.

With over 20 years in electronics and embedded design, I build automotive-grade power and control hardware regularly — a closed-loop DC motor drive running off a 12 V rail on an STM32F103, and battery-powered field nodes where the supply had to survive real electrical noise — so designing a compact 12 V interface between a motorcycle system and your outdoor LED display is squarely my kind of work. For a 1.4 A nominal, 4.8 A peak LED load held inside 10–12 V, I would base it on a rugged automotive DC-DC regulator and wrap it in the protections a motorcycle rail demands: reverse-polarity protection, a TVS/load-dump clamp sized against ISO 7637 automotive transients, undervoltage and overvoltage cut-off, and short-circuit and overcurrent limiting, with the fuse and cable gauge chosen for the 4.8 A worst case and thermal headroom for an outdoor, vibrating, wet and dusty enclosure. I prefer the same simple, commercially-available-parts approach you do — no exotic parts that are hard to source or hard to trust in the field. You would get the schematic, a BOM built from off-the-shelf automotive parts, and the calculations behind each protection stage. One question: do you want this as a schematic-and-BOM design package, or do you also need the PCB layout and a build-ready Gerber set?
